I recently found out that an old friend from my past converted to Catholicism. I wanted to send him a little message to welcome him to the faith and encourage him to continue his journey, but not sure what points to cover or what to say. Any ideas?
First of all pray for guidance.
You haven’t given us a lot of background to go on - like how well you know this person - though it appears you haven’t had much contact with them for some time.
I would just send him a note telling him you got the word and Welcome Home.
Tell him that you are glad that he came into the Church and that there is so many riches to explore in the faith, and maybe ask what initially attracted him to the faith
Ask him who his favorite saint is, of if he can get EWTN (don’t know if you can either), what parish he belongs to (especially if he is in your same diocese).
Ask simple things that might open up avenues of conversation about where he is on his journey, why he converted, etc. Then, once you find out where he is at and what sprituality attracted him, you’ll have a better handle on how to encourage him.
Take it slow and don’t overwhelm him.
Peace
James
