Need help with Fatima question

I have thought about this in the past and now a Protestant has asked this question. *Did *Mary at Fatima pass the test in John 1?

“but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God” (1 John 4, 1-3)

I know that the Church applies this test, among others, to all private revelations but where can we find the information on this? Where exactly in Mary’s messages at Fatima can we read where she confessed that Jesus came in the flesh?

Since she instructed the children, and all the faithful through them, to pray the Rosary with its meditations on the life of Jesus Christ and which begins with the Creed (a declaration of faith in all that is taught within it), then yes.

Hello and welcome to the Catholic Answers Forums! I hope you have a blessed and fruitful time here.

I’ve taken a quick look through my Fatima book (Fatima, the Great Sign, by Francis Johnston) and don’t see where the Lady said specifically that Jesus Christ had come in the flesh or where the children asked her about it. I do know that the local priest was extremely skeptical about the whole thing for some months.

What is the status of the Fatima incident within the Catholic Church? I know John Paul II was a real believer in that regard, but has the Church, as the Church, made any proclamations, announcements (whatever you call the appropropriate declaration) that this was: (1) real and (2) of God?
 
I think that the fact that the Blessed Mother said to say the Rosary that this satisfies the requirement because of the Creed. I make pilgrimages to the Fatima Shrine in Lewiston, NY. and each time I find a deeper spirituality in my life. My heart tells me it is so.🙂

It is an approved site for pilgrimage and the messages may be promulgated within the Church; but being a private revelation, it is not necessary for a Catholic to accept it with divine faith.

Fatima is an approved apparition of the Blessed Virgin. The Church officially approved the apparition worthy of belief in October of 1930.

This was done by Bishop deSilva.

Now do you have to believe in the apparition in order to be Catholic? No.
The approval of the Church merely states that the apparition is worthy of belief and does not contradict Church teaching.

Ok, so I could be a Catholic in good standing and not believe that it was an appearance of Mary?

Absolutely!! But keep in mind, the Church thoroughly investigates these apparitions, and I think we can trust the judgment of the Church 🙂

I would just add to that that the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary focus on the Incarnation
