We have started 'Living Our Faith: The Catechism of the Catholic Church"Video set. “Taught by nine of the nation’s best Catholic professors and sponsored by Weston Jesuit School of Theology (now the Boston College School of Ministry and Theology)” nowyouknowmedia.com/living-our-faith-the-catechism-of-the-catholic-church.html
The first lesson the panel claimed that not only the catholic church is THE CHURCH but any group united in love like the protestants. On the second lesson the panel claimed “Another name for God could be “mother” also “human creation and other creations are in the same level, not above the other” Faith and reason is not compatible, the church should be open to cloning research” etc.
I need a source of credible critique on this study so I can show it to my priest. The first time he corrected, that there is only one church, the catholic church, but I think he is missing the other arguments.

Catholic and catholic again… I think you need to sit down with your priest and really go through it with him if you are going to teach this, otherwise leave it and do something you know is acceptable.

I am not teaching it, he is. Yes i could walk out, but I want to stop this teaching so others are not mislead.

Officially, according to the Church the Protestants are our “separated brethren” and are in imperfect communion with the Church. At least those that profess a Trinitarian baptism.

So there is some degree of Christian unity between Protestants and Catholics.

I haven’t heard of this one and I cannot find any reviews about it anywhere, but from what you have said, I would definitely push to find another one.

There are lots of other great Catechism studies. You might try Pillars from Ascension Press.

If I find any critiques, I will let you know.

Thank you. I reviewd the Pillars and it seems 4 long studies. I will suggest this to him. Is thisa new study? because I see only pillar 1 for sale.Do you know of any other alternatives?

Affirming that separated groups have an imperfect communion *with *the Church based on Baptism and other common elements is not the same as saying those separated groups are the Church or part of the Church, like local Catholic communities. We can even says that the Church of Christ can be present to them in those elements of sanctification which come from the Catholic Church. However, the Church of Christ can only be identified with the Catholic Church alone–it cannot be said to subsist anywhere else. To say otherwise is the heretical branch theory. It’s a subtle, but crucial distinction.

Yes, it is new. The other 3 pillars are forthcoming. :o

That’s the only DVD study on the Catechism I know of. There are several book-based ones (such as this one).

Who was responsible for selecting this for the study group? Becaue if you tell me your priest, I think I’m going to lose it…again.

You mean he didn’t preview it first? And if he did, he already knows what’s in it.

I would inform your bishop and hope he isn’t heterodox as well.

I think you need to find out where your priest is in his beliefs. Ask him if he believes that Protestant denominations are deficient and that they cannot be called a “Church” bur rather “communities” and ask him if he believes that the Catholic Church is the means of salvation.

From Vatican II Decree on Ecumenism
"It follows that the separated Churches and Communities as such, though we believe them to be deficient in some respects, have been by no means deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Church. Nevertheless, our separated brethren, whether considered as individuals or as Communities and Churches, are not blessed with that unity which Jesus Christ wished to bestow on all those who through Him were born again into one body, and with Him quickened to newness of life-that unity which the Holy Scriptures and the ancient Tradition of the Church proclaim.** For it is only through Christ’s Catholic Church, which is “the all-embracing means of salvation,” that they can benefit fully from the means of salvation.”**
On the second lesson the panel claimed "Another name for God could be “mother”
No. God is Father not mother.
also “human creation and other creations are in the same level, not above the other”
Human creation is above animal creation
Faith and reason is not compatible, the church should be open to cloning research"
The Church is not open to cloning research if its aim is to clone humans

Now I know where the visiting priest for Ash Wednesday got his “we evolve from the dust of the stars” from…

Just Out of interest, would any priest actually give their full honest answer on this because the few times I have said things about ‘you guys/Catholics’ to my current priest he has (dutifully) told me off by saying I can’t say that! I put dutifully in brackets because he might actually been telling me off…
Okay so priests teach what they are supposed to. We cannot say that Catholics are xyz to our priests so can Catholic Priests say Protestants are deficient? Though I can say why I would never be Catholic. I just can’t say what where you guys are wrong etc or not to this priest at least:thumbsup: He’s quick and gentle to remind me… /COLOR
