Hi all; my best friend for the last 35 years is going to enter into the Church on the Feast of the Easter Vigil! She has been attending Catechism classes faithfully since last year, and learning from a good orthodox priest who is loyal to Rome. My whole family has been praying for her since we were children, and my parents, both Secular Franciscans, worked very hard in their lifetimes praying for her conversion. Daddy died in 2006, Mother died in November of 2010. My friend announced her intention to enter the Church one month later. I think Mama really got to work praying for her in front of Our Lord once she got to Heaven, lol…
Anyway, my friend believes in the sacrament of Penance, understands it but is still having doubts, the doubts of the scrupulous, as to whether or not EVERYTHING she has ever done can be forgiven. I have explained to her the Mercy of God, the Divine Mercy devotion, but she keeps falling back to the horrible sins of her past and worrying. Can anyone direct me to any particularly stirring and comforting articles on confession for the scrupulous? Sometimes I personally need to read a good hellfire and brimstone piece, like a few sermons of St. Alphonsus are; but right now I need to find something for her that speaks only of the MERCY of God. Any links would be most appreciated. Thank you!
