My husband and I are both converts, expecting our first child in May. As we prepare for the birth and baptism of our baby, we would like to learn more about the Church’s reasons for infant baptism. We accept all Church teaching wholeheartedly, but would like to strengthen our faith with detailed, historically and theologically accurate reasons for the practice.
Can anyone offer clear, online resources that can help us? Having grown up Anabaptist (which means "rebaptized) I was raised with a very different understanding of baptism as an adult proclamation of faith in Jesus, and a strengthening in the Holy Spirit, both of which more closely resemble the purpose of Catholic confirmation.
Obviously, I can Google the topic, but there is so much to wade through. Not everyone defending Catholicism out there is a clear thinker or accurate historian.
Thanks so much -
