My first post seems to have disappeared. Sorry if this is a repost…

It’s a long story, folks, but I turned in my resignation at my job today. I worked in public affairs for a government agency, and the reasons for handing in my resignation can be boiled down to this–it is NOT work that I’ll ever be passionate about. That, and it’s making me go prematurely gray.

There are other reasons that would just sound like I’m griping about the faults or problems of other people, but suffice it to say I DID play a part in it, but it’s not ALL my doing. In the end, I had a sit-down with my boss, we had a serious conversation and a few laughs, too, and in the end I decided I’m just putting off the inevitable.

I’ve got nothing lined up, but I want to get into something “Catholic.” Maybe public relations, maybe apologetics. I don’t have teaching credentials, but I’m currently teaching apologetics to CCD kids in the D.C. area, and I’ll be conducting a class for adults in mid-Feb. Both of these are voluntary jobs.

I need to pay rent and eat, so please, any advice is welcome, as are your prayers.

Thanks,
MM

MM,

I will offer you up in my prayers daily until God opens the door to something new for you. Please keep us posted!

You got it!👍

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with with confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

the prayer above has been linked to miraculous things…

Good Luck…👍

Dear Montanaman:

Good!!! If you can afford to quit–I only hope you did not make a hasty decision thus affecting your wife and kids; if you have them, this would NOT have been a good decision then, IMO at all, causing them to suffer insecurity, etc., because of your choice.

I don’t think enough men really consider the consequences to their families, when leaving a job. Hopefully this is not the case with you, and all I can say, is hopefully too, you do not live with your parents, and have enough money to carry you thru paying all your expenses until the time you find something else.

Good Luck in future ventures.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated.

And no, sparkle, there are no kids or wife to be concerned about. If I have to leave the D.C. area, it WILL, however, be a real heartbreaker. I’ve written about my girlfriend before, and having to move away from her would just kill me. If she was Catholic, I probably wouldn’t have quit this job because I’d be paying off the ring…

Anyway, thanks. I have a certain amount of peace about this, but all the normal terror, too. It’s a good job market, but nothing is guaranteed…

Hi, and I will pray about your job. I think we have all been where you are at one time or another. Nontheless, I will add you to my novena that I pray contiuously for people I know that are seeking employment, better employment, etc. God be with you. Do everything you can as if it depended on you, and pray as if it depended on God- and in the end it all depends on Him.

May God guide you in to the life and vocation He has for you. God bless.

Hi “Montanaman”------

If it kills you so much if you have to move away from sweetie, could this be a sign maybe you should propose??? Just wondering…

Take Care~~

Hi Montanaman,

I will keep you in my prayers, too. I also lost my job six months ago and have not had regular employment since. I am trying to get rehired at my old municipal job so please keep me in your prayers, too, ok? I am in dire need of this job! Hang in there, pal!

Hi Montanaman,

I do understand about what can happen in a government workplace. It can be sheer torture :(. It is a big risk to leave your job but sometimes things can go so wrong that one just has to make the move and return to some semblance of normality.

At the moment I have no work and a large credit card debt. I rely on getting temporary work and I hope and pray that something permanent will come along.

I was made “redundant” in my last job and that was at the beginning of 2003. I was left scarred over what happened, and I am continuing to battle to get more work.

I pray that God will be kind to you and that something will come along that is more appropriate for your talents.

God Bless,

MaggieOH

I am sorry that now you have ths time of uncertainty. You said that you left your ex-job of your own accord so I can’t say I am sorry you lost your job.

But I know that if you work at a place for years with a clean record aand never had a slap on the back, aand the boss said Thanks for a good job…that is a factor sometimes.

I would tell you to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE EVERY day. Don’t let the habit of doing nothing set in. Talk, ask, and pray. Catholic magazines and peridicals have a small staff but you might hit a bullseye.

You might go get teaching credintials, teaching in H.S. is a great thing to do. I did that for 35 years.

If you have a degree, it’s possible that you can get a certificate to substitute teach in public school. Here in NJ, you can get a sub certificate with 60 credits, and they don’t have to be in education. They can be in anything. Also, occasionally, private schools don’t require certification.

Peace,
Linda

Hey Montanaman:

How’s it going with the sweetie and the job market? Saw your post and thought of you---------

Hey all,

Thanks again for the prayers and advice. Everything’s okay now. Short version–I ate a little pride and had a frank discussion with my boss. She said she’d be sorry to lose me, and I said, “Well, I’m not really keen on going out into the wilderness right now.” I ended up “cancelling” my resignation.

Already, things have improved. It feels like all the garbage in the job is behind me, and everything is new. I really didn’t expect it, but a kind of corporate miracle occured.

So, there’s no doubt y’all had a hand in this. Again, thank you.

MM

(Oh, and sparkle–the relationship with the sweetie couldn’t be better. We’ve been studying the Bible more, talking, sometimes debating, kissing a lot. 😉 And by the way–I gave her a copy of the first edition of “Surprised by Truth.” She said she’s “eating it up.” Amazing.)

Oh Montana, I read your post and missed government. I have a relative thats works for the government, several actually and I dont understand how they can stand to see through all the BS. Honsetly I think they are desensitized to it. I am glad though we have good people in government. I live next to DC and I could never to Government work. Sometimes I think they are out to get us all.
