Hello. I’ve been playing a lot of the same cd’s, and so I’m thinking of getting a cd by a new artist. I was hoping that someone could help me find the artist and cd which would best suit what I’m looking for. For the most part, I like albums that are very lively and have lots of drums playing, but which also stir your emotions. I suppose that I’m looking for an artist that has the nostalgic feeling that you get from some songs from Matchbox 20, but has the energy and beat of Yellowcard. Any ideas? 🙂

Well, I’ve been listening to Yellowcard a lot–their album Ocean Avenue. Have been listening to Irish pub songs, too (they’re upbeat). I listen to Matchbox 20 a lot. Sometimes I listen to Evanescence. When I feel angry or frustrated about something, I listen to As I Lay Dying or Chevelle. But I’m wondering if there are any groups like Yellowcard or Matchbox 20 which I might like. 🙂

Just a few suggestions of Christian groups:

Of the hard rock variety try Pillar or Skillet

Ska try O.C Supertones

General pop/rock try Newsong, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Schultz, dc Talk

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I didn’t know that there were so many Catholic bands.

A group called Scythian came to my campus yesterday. They were pretty good, although the cd I got doesn’t have them playing as loudly and hard rock as they did on campus.

i for one would reccomend anberlin, seven places, or some jars of clay, depending on what mood you are in. they are not catholic, sadly, but i find them to be excellent spiritual music. anberlin/seven places are more rock, whereas jars of clay is more soft. if you go to www.purevolume.com/anberlin you can listen to anberlin as a sampling, but the other artists have not set up a site on there. anyways - hope that helps!

edit:: i forgot to mention - the lyrics to seven places/jars of clay ARE religious, whereas anberlin not so much so, but they do classify themselves as a christian rock band. not sure if it matters to you either way.

the interesting thing about Jars of Clay’s first album (definately their best) is that it all depends on the volume you listen to it - at regular radio volume its QUITE mellow, but when you crank it up to their concert volume, woah! theres a lot more there you don’t realize…

Saw them in concert about a couple of weeks before they got “big” when the song “Flood” hit number one on the Christian charts - one of the most awesome concerts I’ve ever been to (even if some crazy guy was trying to crowd surf on a mosh pit that was quite small because almost no one knew who they were yet, lol!)

Thanks for the Christian music suggestions.

Any good pagan music? 😃

Seventh Day Slumber, Casting Crowns & Pillar are some of my favorites. If you like evanescence then try Plumb. When I first heard her I thought of evanescence. Toby Mac is a good artist if into a bit of hip-hop. There are so many. Try going to www.air1.com. There you can find what you are looking for. Also www.effectradio.com is good, a bit harder but still positive.
