how can my husband and I speed along the Rite of Convalidation that we need prior to Easter?

we’ve been getting conflicting answers, and we’re seriously confused.

I tried to post this earlier, but my post disappeared off into cyberspace over an hour ago, and hasn’t been seen again…I can’t find it anywhere…

Thank you!
Jamie

You didn’t give alot of info so I’m not sure of you circumstances.

Have you already spoken to your priest about your convalidation?
Has he sent the proper paper work to the diocese for approval?
Why exactly do you need this by Easter?
We had our marriage convalidated this past summer. Our priest said it would take 4 to 6 weeks for approval but it actually came back in about 2. Then all you need is 2 witness (and the priest ofcourse) to have the ceremony.
We had a more simple wedding style ceremony but it’s not necessary.

Jamie,

The way my parish handles this is we do all prenuptual investigations during the fall, get all the paperwork done and then we do an evening of convalidations (I usually do this unless they ask for one of our priests).

Since I have no idea what problem(s) you might be facing I have no idea what to tell you. If you could supply some additional information that would clarify the situation perhaps I can offer some advice. If you’d rather, you can send me a PM and I can address it that way.

Our religious education cooridinator has told us that there is no paperwork, that we just need to pick a date, but our priest told us that we are waiting on paperwork, but never told us what paperwork or what diocese should be sending it,

We have to have the rite done before Easter so that my husband may begin receiveng the Eucharist again, and be confirmed and so that I may receive my First Holy Communion and confirmation.

We’ve been trying to have this done since last July, and the problem we’re having is that we are getting conflicting information. We’ve met with our priest several times, but sometimes he seems confused about the entire situation.

Would this paperwork be coming from the Military Archdiocese, since that is who our parish is under or would it be coming from the one my husband previously received sacraments at, and what is this paperwork?

Our Catechist is trying to help us but since we are lacking some important information, it is hard to know what any of us are supposed to do…

Thanks for posting, you helped clear up a couple of the questions without knowing it!!

Jamie,

The normal paperwork that is required is for the priest or deacon to do a prenuptual investigation that determines that you were free to enter into marriage at the time you did. This normally involves asking you and your spouse some questions, getting declarations of freedom from two persons for each of you (usually this comes from your parents), and a copy of your current marriage license. I’m assuming this is a first marriage for both of you, so there is nothing that would involve the marriage tribunal.

Being in the military ordinariate can make this a little more complex, but not that much. Make an appointment to see the priest and take a copy of this message with you – it may help to get you on the right track. Normally the paperwork only takes a couple of days assuming you have access to those who will testify that you and your spouse were not married and not under any perpetual vows that would preclude marriage.

Good luck!

Ed, You are such a blessing, my dear friend. I will most definetly take this with me when I go to talk to our priest. We were never asked for information for them to contact our parents or any witnesses, although in the military it would be easy enough for the military archdiocese to get.
I will make sure that I make an appointment to see him as soon as he gets back from his TDY. (its like a military business trip)

Thank you so much!
God Bless!
Jamie
