The church choir is signing “Hail, Holy Queen” (the version from Sister Act) next week and the latin in middle is throwing everyone.

Does anyone have translations for the following? My dictionary isn’t big enough. 🙂
Mater amaterintermerata
Virgo respice mater ad spice
Thanks in advance!

Here is the complete text in Latin and in English:

**1Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae,
2Vita dulcedo et spes nostra salve.
3Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevae.
4Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes,
in hac lacrimarum valle.
5Eja ergo advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
6Et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
7O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria.

1Hail holy queen, mother of mercy,
2Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
3To you do we cry poor banished children of Eve,
4To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley of tears.
5Turn then, most gracious advocate
your eyes of mercy toward us.
6And after this, our exile,
Show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
7O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Thanks, but I can’t find the two lines that I don’t know in there! We’re doing a different version, apparently.

They are not in the Hail Holy Queen’

The first line is in the *Sanctissima *

it is really

Mater amata intemerata

mother she who we love unspotted

THe other I have no clue one

I think it is something like
virgin before you, mother towards us you looked

but I could be way way off

The first line is in the *Sanctissima *
The second is also from O Sanctissima. It is really:

Virgo respice mater adspice

(Virgin regard [us] mother behold [us])

The difficulty seems to be that there are two hymns (at least) called “Hail Holy Queen” in English. The one from the movie has these lines in some versions:

“Mater, o mater intemerata,” (Mother, oh, mother undefiled)

“Virgo, respice; mater, adspice” (Virgin, look back at us; mother, gaze upon us)

Hope that helps.
