Hello,
Each year I see myself increasingly involved with my parishes Holy Week Liturgies. It has come to my attention that along with myself, My parish’s priest is not up to date with what needs to be done officially with the special services we have with Holy week.

Can anyone direct me towards any publications that spell out exactly what is to be done during the various different liturgies we celebrate throughout the year. I am not asking for that Happy Clappy 1970s mumbo jumbo. I want resources that spell out “official” rubrics of the various celbrations.

Thanks in advance

Do you know about the Circular Letter Concerning the Preparation and Celebration of the Easter Feasts from 1988, issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship? That would be a good place to start. Full text HERE.

That is a good place certain questions about Easter, but all the rubrics are in the Sacramentary and the GIRM. All one really needs to do is follow that…and you don’t have to go out and buy anything since the Sacramentary is already is every parish. You might also check the Ceremonial of Bishops.

However, Paschale Solemnitatis is a good resource. The problem is that it’s only available online. I tried getting my pastor to look at it, but, to no avail. That is why things that should not have happened during Holy Week happened.

Why would that be a problem? It can easily be printed out. However, it is also available in the book The Liturgy Documents: A Parish Resource (Volume 2), edited by David Lysik*.*

But, the book that you reference also contains some out of date material, and, that is a problem.

I have three, three-ring binders that house just about all of thte authoritatie documents of the Church, from the MP by Pope St. Pius X to Sacramentum Caritatis, to some very recent directives from the CDWDS.

The GIRM really does not give any guidance for Holy Week. The Sacramentary, itself, PS and the Ceremonial for Bishops offer a better road map.

Yes, I understand that, but how does that change the contents of the document in question? Also, what about printing it from the internet?

I have printed the documents. With all due respect, what do you think is contained in my three, three-ring binders? 😃

I have no idea. All I know is that you intimated that oneline sources were not helpful:

I never said that. What I said that FAQ’s and pictures are not really authoritative. Besides, what the Holy See does not have on their website, Adoremus does, and it’s a little easier to navigate. Both of them have the authoritative documents and they are quite helpful.
