Hello,

I’m not a regular in this part of the forum, but I need some quick help and I’m not doing a good job of finding what I need on my own.

I need some Scripture Verses talking about the following:

God, as the Creator and the only right recipient of our worship
Why it’s right to value God over creatures (to the point of loving Him “more” than your spouse/kids/life/whathaveyou)
Why we have to always strive to be more moral, righteous, etc.
The point of marriage is to help each other get to Heaven and to have children (God-willing)

I’m sure this is not what you are looking for, but put some of the ideas into a bible search engine. This link is one to [B:RSV](Bible: Revised Standard Version). At the USCCB you can also search for ideas. You have to indict what you want with the filter…it sometimes doesn’t work to filter directly to the bible itself…a little thumb work there.

These are a lot of questions, I’ll make a first try and I am sure there’ll be added more by others shortly.

God, as the Creator and the only right recipient of our worship:
Creator is prominent in Gen 1 and 2, of course, and he is addressed throughout a the creator, for example in Dtn 32,6, where Israel is also reminded that it is foolish to turn from God and worship other Gods.
God being the only recipient of worship is the first commandment (Dtn 5,6-9) and it is always reinforced that it is a sin to turn from God to worship others.

Why it’s right to value God over creatures (to the point of loving Him “more” than your spouse/kids/life/whathaveyou):
God is the life, without God there is no life (Dtn 30,209, as above, he is the creator without whom nobody would exist, and He is the supreme good and gives his unlimited love and eternal life to humans (1 Joh 4,7f). All things God has to offer a vastly superior to anything humans can provide.

Why we have to always strive to be more moral, righteous, etc.:
We are called to live in the love of Christ. Loving him means to keep the commandments (1 Joh 5,3), and we are reminded by Paul to run the good race (2 Tim 4,6f), meaning not ceasing in our efforts.

The point of marriage is to help each other get to Heaven and to have children (God-willing):
I only read “Be fruitful and multiply”, there is no scripture that advises couples to stay childless, on the contrary, barrenness is seen as great misfortune, so this would be kind of negative proof for being called to have children in marriage. 1 Tim 5,14 calls for young widows to marry again and bear children.
2 Cor 6,14 tells us that we should not bear the yoke with unbelievers, so that we are not tempted to darkness, turning this around, it seems clear that believers shall help each other on their way towards the light, so how much more must these apply to those who become “one flesh” in marriage! (Gen 2,24)

Isaias 1, 28-29 (and most of the prophecy of Isaias, and most of the other prophets as well, discuss this topic extensively): “And he shall destroy the wicked, and the sinners together: and they that have forsaken the Lord, shall be consumed. For they shall be confounded for the idols, to which they have sacrificed: and you shall be ashamed of the gardens which you have chosen.”

Mark 10, 18 – “None is good but one, that is God.”
