I am interested in reading Catholic books on how to interpret the Bible and books on morality and spirituality.

I have the books by Christopher West that were really good and one written by Pope Paul called Love and Responsibilty.

Can anyone offer any more suggestions.

Thanks for your assistance.

God Bless,

Lisa

The BEST book I ever read on the Bible is the “Catena Aurea” compiled by St. Thomas Aquinas. It is a commentary on the four gospels by the fathers of the Church.

As this thread asks for book recommendations, it was moved to our Popular Media forum.

I love The Bad Catholic’s Guide to Good Living. It is true to our theology and very funny. Who said Catholic’s can’t have fun? Check out the section on Ash Wednesday. I laughed so hard tears were running down my face.

If you feel like you’re always confessing the same sins over and over and not making much progress, or you are mostly plagued with venial sins, or you really want to do your best and make your stay in Purgatory short (or possibly skip it altogether), I highly recommend:

Frequent Confession: Its Place in the Spiritual Life by Benedict Baur

There are a few long chapters, but most are around 8-10 pages and serve well as an examination of conscience when you want to focus on a certain area – especially those venial sins that are often taken too lightly.

There are huge numbers of really good books.

You might want to browse among some prolific authors for specific books that might pique your interest at any given moment.

Benedict Groeschel

Joan Carroll Cruz

Thomas Green

Therese of Lisieux

Patrick Madrid

Peter Kreeft

Peter Stravinskas

Scott Hahn

Thomas Dubay

Then there is the whole staff of Catholic Answers… Catholicism and Fundamentalism, … a new one: Essential Catholic Survival Guide…

If money is an issue isn’t it always? ;^) ] then visit your public library; they always have book sales. I found an obsolete Catholic Almanac for really cheap - a dollar or less. But the basic information never goes out of date. It is a well-written and concise summary of many topics of interest. Hours of fascinating reading.

Well, the Catechism is a must have for every home.

Roman Catholic Books www.booksforcatholics.com “Reprinting Catholic Classics for the Next Century”. We like the historical “Return to Tradition” originally printed in 1948-9. It’s divided into periods, The Belloc Period, Chesterton, Modernism, etc. They sell a book, “World’s Great Catholic Literature.” I advise ordering their catalog.

I don’t think another book publisher carries most of their books; very unique and orthodox.

“Inside Islam: A Guide for Catholics” by Robert Spencer. It might be available on this web site or EWTN’s. A valuable guide.

“From Scandal To Hope” Father Benedict Groeschel.

Sophia Institute is fairly new; they also republish. I like the 1957 book, “Holiness For Housewives and other working women.” This book was featured on Catholic Answers Live. www.sophiainstitute.com

thank you everyone for your assistance.

have a great weekend.
