Does anyone know of a Spanish-language hymnal with good, theologically-sound traditional hymns and correctly-translated Mass parts? We are currently using OCP’s “Flor y Canto,” which is primarily based in Liberation Theology and offers practically no Mass parts in the approved Spanish translations. One with printed music would be a plus. Thanks.

Find a good Christian book store. Or just Google the book. It should list places that sell it.

GIA is supposed to be coming out with one, although I am leery about what it will have. Even the ones used in Mexico are somewhat suspect, but, I would think that they would use parts of the Mass that are not paraphrased. I will ask someone down here. Like you, we are stuck with OCP.

Even Paluch has its problems with its Spanish music section, as there are some parts of the Mass that do not line up with the correct texts.

The only thing I have found so far is a Mexican hymnal called “500 Cantos Para la Comunidad Cristiana,” which I bought in Mexico several years ago. I can’t seem to find this book in print, and it did not have much in the way of Mass parts. Perhaps something from Spain…?

They have that little book that you mentioned in one of the parishes. However, it is in leaflet form; evidently someone just made lots of copies. Spain is a little strange because, believe it or not, OCP does have some influence there, too (it’s like an octopus with tentacles everywhere). However, that is not to say that you can’t find something good.

You might try posing the question on MusicaSacra. There might be folks there who would know.
