:o Well…I figure since people can get help with NFP and that other stuff, that maybe I could get help…specifically from women. :o It has to do with my mentruel cycle, and to be frank, it’s scaring me, and just want a little advice… How much is too much (where losing is concerned)? I’m so sorry to have to ask such a question, but am worried, and really can’t ask anybody else (who I would ask is my aunt, but she is at work, and my doctor is out today…). Thanks for any help, and sorry again… :o

If you are feeling light-headed or ill because of a heavy flow, you may need medical attention. Is there a nurse help call number in your area? If so, call to ask if this is a serious problem or not. Or try calling your urgent care facility.

I’m a little confused about your question…are you talking about bleeding too much? If you are…I understand that avg. amounts of blood loss is around three tablespoons (sounds gross to measure…but apparently someone did it!)

Are you experiencing heavy cramping and bleeding…there are a lot of possibilities…one being endometriosis…get an apointment to see a gynocologist…don’t worry!

If your question didn’t mean what I thought it did…disregard!

God Bless

Lillith, you got the question right. Sorry, I should have been more clear. 🙂 I don’t know exactly how much I’m losing, and I’m not about to measure. :bigyikes: It’s just that it’s more than what I usually get, and the pain is taken care of with ibuprofen (I still have a little bit of discomfort though). I’m not feeling lightheaded, it’s just really bothering me. Before I lost my mom, I would ask her about it, and she would help me feel better, but now that she is gone, I can’t ask, and I don’t want to ask my dad! It’s just kind of embarassing to ask anybody else (in person).

If you have to change your protection more than every couple of hours or so, you should have it checked. Or if you feel you have reason to be concerned for any reason, get it checked.

If it heavier than normal, I would see a doctor.

The above would never hold true for me I am a heavy bleeder and soak overnight pads in minutes, my doctor is aware of this and I use blood thinners,… am anemic…though it has been this way for me since my son was born. And my OB/GYN knows …

Another thing - have you been eating chocolate, sesame seeds, papaya, dates? These are things that cause increased bleeding and I avoid during my period.

Also drink milk and take some Calcium, that is known to lessen the flow.

I would suggest that you see a GYN if you have unusual bleeding, which could be indicative of a number of problems, including an unresolved miscarriage, cervical cancer, fibroids, etc and so forth.

Uh oh… :o I did eat chocolate late last night… I sometimes do have heavier cycles. I know that my cycle is “messed up”, as sometimes I will skip a month or two, and then get it, sometimes they’re extremely light, and other times (like this) they’re heavy. Thanks for the advice, I think I will go drink some milk. 😃

Spiritblows- I know one thing’s for sure, it’s not an unresolved miscarraige, but I will need to go see my doctor about this; I just can’t do it right now because I don’t have any insurance (and it’d be a great help).

Also, think a religious posting site is not a very good resource for medical advise. Even a medical person would be outside of their scope of practice to try and diagnose or give advise without evaluating you in person. You need to be seen by your doctor.

Our unfortunate patchwork of health insurence coverage in the otherwise great nation is really a national embarrassment. It is so sad how many people have to delay being evaluated by health professionals because of these considerations, often leading to more problems down the road. 😦

I have never heard of those things causing increased bleeding. Is there some kind of chemical in them, like a blood thinner?

One thing that works to decrease the flow are NSAIDS like Motrin or Advil. They probably will not work if the heavy bleeding is due to fibroids.

Also, you should get a complete blood count and tests for blood clotting. There is a blood disorder - and I forgot the name of it - Von Willobrands or something that can manifest itself by heavy uterine bleeding.

I highly recommend going to a doctor when you can if you feel that is necessary, but in the mean time, get Marilyn Shannon’s book “Fertility Cycles and Nutrition” from CCLI. She has some really great chapters about what to do for bad cramping, heavy bleeding, etc. and they are all simple changes in diet. Also, if your cycle is irregular, and sometimes heavy, it is a somewhat common problem. Try drinking some raspberry LEAF tea. It is available through local health food stores, and may even be called “pregnancy tea”. Don’t be put off by it, it is just as good for you now as at any time, and my midwife recommends it for any kind of feminine bleeding that does not require immediate medical attention. It is a good source of calcium and other nutrients that will help your uterine muscle tone.
