I have received a negative annulment from the Tribunal. Can we marry civilly and mutally agree to not consumate the marriage so that we could receive the sacraments of the church? That is to live as brother and sister for companionship?

I am not 100% sure but that sounds like living in the temptation of sin and I really doubt it would be ok

I’m so very sad for your predicament. A heavy blow for you both.
For my part I’d say, best to ask your priest that question, as you are both trying to process the answer you already suspect. You both have to honestly process whether you can handle the answer if you remain together. Can you avoid the temptations that would be against the sixth commandment. Perhaps few couples can, especially long-term.
My prayers for you both, that God will guide you both and help you both to find life and peace.

I would guess no, because without the annulment you are still completely married according to the catholic church and you are not free to do things unbecoming of a married person. That means no dating, much less moving in together.

Jim Blackburn an Apologist on Staff with Catholic Answers has written a lot about this. I am guessing that you may be able to based on what I hear him tell callers on the radio show. Perhaps you can call the apologist line and talk to him, or go to the Ask an Apologist sections, or search his blog posts.

Praying for you, I am divorced and probably will initiate the annulment process soon.

God Bless you for such a heroic consideration. As the news of the same sex marriage cases are still fresh, your situation reminds me that we believe that the Church would have the homosexual live in chastity with respect to the one they love. I guess as divorced Catholics we are in a similar position, albeit somewhat different in that our general nature des not preclude marriage. However, I so often here the argument from the homosexual community arguing that heterosexuals, not necessarily homosexuals, have already undermined the sanctity of marriage. I would have to agree. So as a divorced person myself, I pray that God gives me the strength to live in chastity as He would want me to. I pray the same for you. God bless!

Go talk to your pastor.

In general, no you cannot enter an invalid civil marriage and expect to receive the sacraments of the Church.

You already know there is no avenue to valid marriage as long as your current spouse is alive.

Getting married civilly is a public act. Living in the same household is also a public act. These two things can create scandal knowing you cannot validly marry in the Church.
