I happened to walk in on one of their Masses. Everything that was described in the article from chiesa was exactly as I had witnessed it. It was pretty bad. The priest was already tired (after having celebrated the regular Anticipated Sunday Vigil and three wedding Masses. The whole set-up was bizarre and the music was awful. The Mass is not anyone’s personal property to do with as they wish. It is something received from the Church.

Aside from the Neocatechumal Eucharistic celebration, we also have another extreme mode - what they call, “Pop-Mass” involving lots of youth. I happen to attend one in my parish by accident but I found it way too much to swallow. There is too much dancing and drums and keyboard - all the modern instruments with “rock” flavours causing a loss of solemnity. But definitely, it was not what I expected.

When I last attended the Neocatechumenal Mass, I didn’t find their songs bizzare. They only use the classical guitar and in the one I attended, one bongo, a violin and a tambourine. Their rhythum is also quite simple such that many could participate. One thing that appeals me was that their songs are taken from the Psalms and the Scriptures - which I think should be the case.

Ephesians 5:19-20 Sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs among yourselves, singing and chanting to the Lord in your hearts, always and everywhere giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the whole, I think they still need to refine their liturgy in consonance with the Church liturgy. Aside from that, I think its a good community to be with.

benedictgal i’ve seen those, but what reputation does chiesa have, and can i convince them it is reputable? also, how did they get a hold of those documents in the first place? that puts their authenticity into question, unlike the b16 address which is made public on the official vatican website…

Chiesa is on the same level as Zenit. They have a very solid reputation and, in fact, are a very reliable source for information. One thing you should note: when Sandro Magister talks about the addresses of the Holy Fahter not made public, he refers to the media’s hacking of the Pope’s remarks.
