ok. Pope B16 has recently given to the neocatechumenal way a set of norms that are directed to the communities. the pope and the congregation for divine worship have given to the Neocatechumenal way and ONLY to the neocatechumenal way the permission to change the sign of peace to after the prayers of the faithful(this same proposal was refused to the United States conference of catholic bishops). to me this sounds like the pope is for the Neocatechumenal way rather then against it.
secondly the neocatechumenal way does nothing that is against what the pope says.
also the congregation for divine is finalizing the liturgical practices that are done in the way. the dance after the mass doesn’t count because the mass is ended and thus isn’t part of the liturgy. but there was a saint that danced during the mass.
finally i have been in the Neocatechumenal way for over 6 years, am in one of the seminaryies and am studing the liturgy

To the esteemed Mr. Kiko Argüello, Ms. Carmen Hernandez, and Rev. Father Mario Pezzi,

Following the conversations with this Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist in the communities of the Neocatechumenal Way, in keeping with the guidelines issued in the meeting with you on November 11 of this year, I am to inform you of the Holy Father’s decisions.

Liturgy: Benedict XVI Brings the Neocatechumenals Back to the Right Way
The confidential document in which the pope cracks down on abuses in how the Neocatechumenal Way celebrates the Mass

by Sandro Magister

ROMA, December 27, 2005 – In his powerful pre-Christmas address to the curia, Benedict XVI dedicated a passage to the synod of bishops on the Eucharist, which was held in the Vatican last October.

The pope expressed his appreciation of the fact that “there is a reawakening in the Church of the joy of adoring the risen Lord present in the Eucharist flesh and blood, body and soul, divinity and humanity.”

He recalled that this revival of Eucharistic adoration was also displayed during World Youth Day last August in Cologne…

In mid-December, the founders and directors of the Neocatechumenal Way – Spaniards Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez, and the Italian priest Mario Pezzi – received a two-page letter from cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, with a list of “decisions of the Holy Father” which they must obey.

The letter is reproduced down below. Of the six points detailing the pope’s directives, only one permits the Neocatechumenals to continue what they are doing. This regards placing the exchange of peace before the offertory, a traditional practice in the Christian liturgy which is still in use today, for example, in the Ambrosian Rite celebrated in the archdiocese of Milan…

i hope that ou are contradicting yourselves with this information particularly the interview with arinze. first is Cardinal Arinze chastizing the Neocatechumenal Way? No he is just sying what we have to do and if you have ever attended a liturgy of the neocatchumenal way you will see that the books we use most of the communities already do say the gloria and the creed. now in regards to the first point about the saturday night liturgy no were does it say that we cannot celebrate on sturday night it just says that we have to enter into a diolgue with the ordinary of the diocese so in real terms that means that we can celbrate on saturday nights. secondly about the sign of peace Cardinal Arinze says that it is allowed until futher notice, meaning it is all right to do the sigh of peace before the offertory. then about the way that we recive communion we have 2 years time. but if you know anything about canon law (the law that governes the church) it means that we don;t have to change until we are told for a definite fact that it is done. the neocatechumenal way for those who don’t know is in a time of “ad expirimentum” a time of tests to see if the statues and everything that we do are in conforming with the church.
now in reference to the pope “cracking down on us” you should be aware that while he was the prefect of the congregation of the faith he approved personally all of our theological point and all of the “steps” that we do. and so if anyone says that he is against us that is not true at all when he was stilla priest in germany he brought the neocatechumenal way into germany, he knows the neocatechumenal way better then most people do, with obvious exeptions.
so please do some checking around when you put things up, becuase i don;t think that we would be as fruitful has we are if we weren’t in full communion with the Holy See.

another thing is anyone aware that the letter from Cardinal Arinze to Kiko (the founder of the Neocatechumenal Way) was a private letter and was leaked to the press, and because of this the pope took suggestions that Cardinal Arinze made to Kiko and made them norms.

The SPIN continues.
