In Genesis, where we read about the Sons of God “joining” with the daughters of men and this race of giants called the Nephilum … I know one view is that it is the line of Seth and that Augustine agreed with that but has the church decided on the matter … because I have heard a couple commentaries and it seems obvious that it is the fallen angels and not mere men … other wise why bother to record it!!!

Thoughts,
Terry

To directly answer your two questions-- no, the Church has not defined this one way or the other.

The reason it was brought up, was because it was important to the original writer and to his audience. What significance it has for us has been the subject of much speculation. It isn’t true that they were obviously fallen angels since, as it has often been pointed out, it is not in the nature of angels, fallen or otherwise, to procreate, since they are pure spirits.

There have been a number of terrific threads on this topic already. Go to the top of the page and use the “search” feature and you’ll find 'em.

Hi, I couldn’t find it … maybe I’m spelling it wrong? Can you help?

Maybe angels are pure spirits but maybe fallen angels have different properties? After all Nephalium (sp?) doesn’t it mean fallen ones? or another translation “earth born” … we’re all earth born, no need to point that out otherwise … right?

All of that is pure speculation. All we know is that if they were true angels, no procreation.
