Netflix again, it sounds like this has aired already, it’s a series it sounds like.

Michael Medved very briefly reviews, one may go to link to read more.

Mainstream News article:

I believe in freedom of speech, freedom of religion. I’m starting to think that some of these “shocking” films really don’t have that much of an effect except causing a stir. I have no plans to watch it, just pointing it out.

“Star Studded” per Medved, I’m sorry, I don’t think I recognized any of the names. Oh, well.

I actually have this on my list to watch.

Going purely off your links, I believe the first one may be reading into things when it says it portrays Christianity as a cult. No, it portrays a story of a fictional church that goes too far. I don’t think it is saying all of Christianity is this way. It is based on a novel. Let’s face it, there are some churches out there that have some bizarre beliefs and practices that are Christian. That doesn’t mean the movie paints all of Christianity with the same paint brush. Stories in films are often fiction with aspect of some truth thrown in to make it believable. So it bears remembering that it is a work of fiction.

The second link merely describes working as an extra and makes no comment on the theme of the story.

Just because the actors are unrecognizable to you does not mean they are not talented, so, not sure what you are getting at.

I use a lot of thumbs pointing downwards - like the Roman emperors 😉 - even for films that I haven’t seen but which I quickly understand are filthy.

I don’t tell a lie by putting my thumb down: if a movie offends my Lord or his holy law, I would suffer a lot to see it, so I can say that I don’t like it even without having seen it.

🙂

Yes, the Twilight Movies were quite a big deal that he starred in.

Have seen this film. It is not the story of a fictional church; but one in which certain characters belong to such a church. It is not anti-Christian; although it does contain - mainly as a backdrop - a particular brand of ‘happy-clappy’ (as we used to say in non-conformist South Wales) pentecostalism, with exaggerated piety - on the part of a few characters - on occasions.

It’s a yarn, often violent and sexual, and not a little weird in places. But not an attack on Christianity per se.

Same here, on my to watch list based on the recommend of a friend who is also a prolific author in the horror genre.

You are right. I meant church not as one particular denomination, but rather as people that practice their faith in a certain way. People that are so obsessed with their thoughts of what they believe to be true, that they twist God into the image they want him to be.

I watched the movie this afternoon, and I agree with your assessment that the movie is not anti-Christian. In fact, it appears to me that the article is really off the mark. The storyline does involve some “church people” but I do not feel that the characters were created to mock or portray Christians as a group negatively.

It was a movie that held my attention for its entire running time, although I know some will object and find it offensive.

Watched it this afternoon.

It is a movie about very broken people, and most of them have a very broken idea of God. It is not a movie for kids.
