Netflix testing ads

I spend the extra couple bucks per month to have ad-free Hulu.

I mean… in fairness regular cable TV is something we pay for and yet we have to watch ads. And Netflix costs FAR less than regular cable.

I know it would annoy me, horribly… but I understand why they would lean that way.

I think it would be awesome, however, if the ads were confined to the beginning of the show and AFTER a show. Kind of like how it is right now (for previews)

See I didn’t even know that existed. I have free Hulu because I’m a Sprint customer.

I quit my Netflix subscription after the pro-abortion programming started coming out. Haven’t missed it yet.

What are you referring to here? Would like to spread the word.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the whole net neutrality repeal. Netflix and Amazon were two of the biggest targets of the anti-net neutrality bunch, like Verizon and Comcast—who want to charge more to high bandwidth users.

When we first got Hulu we had it with ads. I guess somewhere down the line I got so sick of it I just paid the extra fee.

Reading the article, we are not talking about toothpaste and new car ads:

In late August, Netflix users reported the service [began testing ads for other series] between episodes of the content they already happened to be binge-watching.

The streaming service says this is only a test for now and only for a “segment” of Netflix’s user base, not every customer. Furthermore, Netflix confirms these ads can be skipped.**

I’ve seen them. 🙂 And they do happen at the end of episodes. Usually they’re promos for other shows.

The ads are recommendations for shows you might like based on your view history, not commercials.

They’ve got me totally wrong then. LOL. They keep suggesting things that are WAY outside my interest and not at all what dominates my watch history. HAHA

Sounds like Tivo.

“Based on your view history (stand up comedy and cooking shows), we believe that you like antiques”

I haven’t used Netflix in a week or two, so I haven’t noticed them yet.

ROFL! YES!

For me it’s: based on your history of watching science fiction and old sitcoms we think you’d LOVE this romantic comedy.

Okay that makes sense. I wouldn’t want Stranger Things interrupted for a Nissan commercial.

Or Mindhunters interrupted by a commercial for some pharmaceutical product that is about 3 minutes long because they have to spend more than 2 just to list all the debilitating side effects.

When cable TV first came out, one of the selling points was that it was ad-free. Because we were paying for the service, they didn’t have to find it with advertising. Somewhere along the way, they realized that they could get away with charging outrageous monthly fees and make money from advertising.

Guess someone has to watch “Stranger Things” (I’d rather watch the Nissan commercial!!)
