OK, this topic might give some people the wrong impression, but this is a question that I’m interested in. I want to preface it by saying that the Church is obviously NOT a venue for business networking, but what is business networking like within the Church? I mean, have you been able to establish business contacts/relationships through social events hosted by local parishes/diocese, etc.? Are there organizations set up specifically to bring together Catholic business people? Any resources that we can tap into? It’s not only that I want to network purely for business, but I also want to find other like-minded people within the Church to fellowship with. There is a Christian club at the school I’m going to, but there’s no Catholic club, per se. I guess I could start one, but the school itself is known to be pretty liberal, so it may not be easy.

Thanks in advance!

Certainly there are Catholic professional organizations, such as Catholic medical association, Catholic dentists, Catholic nurses, etc.

My old parish had a jobs ministry, which did have networking components to it.

The business organization Legatus (www.legatus.org) is a wonderful example of leading Catholic executives coming together for networking and spiritual growth.

I would actually disagree with that. I think that the Church’s primary function is obviously not business or social networking, but it is a good thing for a parish to do and I think it’s integral in terms of helping people. When I hear of someone that’s unemployed, I can use business contacts from my parish to help find them a job. When I know of a worthy cause that someone might support (for example, cleaning the oil on the gulf coast), I use business contacts to connect them with people that can need their help (for example, someone that owns a company doing contract work on the gulf). When a teenager tells me “I want to be an architect when I grow up”, I can use business contacts to connect them to an architect in the parish to answer questions. And when I need a contractor, I feel better hiring a contractor from my parish because I know she’s likely to be a person with good morals and ethics. I think it’s important to know who’s in your parish both socially and professionally so that you can work for the mutual benefit of all.

LOL! It’ll be years and years before if/when I get to that level! Are there “associate-level” business professional organizations for Catholics?
