I posted this on my blog, but thought i’d post it here because it is a good point.

Frank and I were at Mass yesterday, and we had a substitute priest. He is french, and he is a wonderful priest. He gave a very fiery homily. Was he shouting? No. You don’t have to shout or
have a boisterous voice to make a fiery homily! Anyhow, before the homily, the priest said, I am going to use strong words. No, that does not mean he was swearing or using bad language.

He gave a charitable, and kind, but powerful homily about being Catholic, and the fact that we should NEVER deny we are Catholic because if we do, we are denying Christ and betraying Him.

I thought, WOW! what a homily!!! He spoke with passion, and you could see the love of God in this priest!!! So, he finished his homily, and he was hoarse a bit after it. Then after Mass had ended, I went into the coffee room, and I was about to get myself a glass of juice, and as I was doing that, I said to the lady who was making the coffee, wasn’t that an excellent homily?

She started grumbling about how she couldn’t hear the priest, and she started getting snooty about it, so I told her, he really is a nice priest! He gave an excellent homily! I was very charitable and kind to her as I said nice things about the priest:)

Well, sometimes people forget that when you attack a priest, its like your attacking Christ Himself. Priests represent Christ, so if you attack a priest, your attacking Jesus Himself! Then in walks father, jolly, and smiling, and I said to him, father would you like a cup of coffee? He said, sure! So, I went to pour him a cup, and the same lady who made the coffee got in my way, and I politely said to her, excuse me, father would like a cup of coffee. So she grumbled and got out of my way.

I thought to myself, she is just being petty! The entire congregation heard every word he said during the entire Mass. We all heard it believe me. She was just being petty, who knows, maybe she was having a bad day, and was not feeling well, and used the priest as an excuse to vent. Could be. But the fact is, you don’t say bad things about a priest. It should be between you and the priest. Not publicly humiliating him!

I said charitable things to her about him, and I showed no animosity towards her at all. We must remember to always be charitable in our words and deeds. It does not bode well for us if we attack a priest. The priest has given his life to Christ, and he belongs to Christ. Would you attack Christ? I doubt it! So why then do it to a priest who represents Christ? Just some food for thought.

we should NEVER deny we are Catholic because if we do, we are denying Christ and betraying Him.
I sometimes believe that I would never hide that I am a Catholic, but the more I think about it, the more I have realized I have failed so many times.

The fact that every time, when we fail to act as a Christian - being so offensive, insensitive, angry, etc… we indeed hide Christ and others won’t be able to recongize Christ in us.

Jesus also wants us to respect one another in general. Respecting superior and being obedient to him is very pleasing to God.

Your right. I’m the guy in line at the store with all the tattoos in a black t-shirt. Then when I open the door for you I get a “thanks?” I love surprising people.🙂 Tim

Funny story,
Our Parish priest had his car stolen last month right out of the garage. A couple days later, the robbers must have seen his Preistly identification card and returned the car to its rightful spot with only a few beer cans and cigarette boxes inside. Other than that it was unharmed.
Our Priest was fairly pleased 🙂 My only question is, you think these guys went to confession after? And if so, could their penence be cleaning the car out 🙂

This private revelation to Mutter Vogel is in the little Pieta prayer books:

THE PRIESTHOOD IS A MASTERPIECE OF
CHRIST’S DIVINE LOVE, WISDOM AND POWER
NEVER ATTACK A PRIEST
“Jesus, Mary, I love You, Save Souls.”
CRITICISM OF PRIESTS

Our Lord’s revelations to Mutter Vogel

“One should NEVER attack a priest, even when he’s in error, rather one should pray and do penance that I’ll grant him My grace again. He alone fully represents Me, even when he doesn’t live after My example!” (page 29, Mutter Vogel’s Worldwide Love, St. Grignion Publishing House, Altoting, South Germany (29. 6. 1929)).

When a Priest falls we should extend him a helping hand THROUGH PRAYER AND NOT THROUGH ATTACKS! “I myself will be his judge, NO ONE BUT I!” “Whoever voices judgment over a priest has voiced it over Me; child, never let a Priest be attacked, take up his defense.” (Feast of Christ the King 1937) "Child, Never judge your confessor, rather pray much for him and offer every Thursday, through the hands of My blessed Mother, Holy Communion (for Him) (18.6. 1939)&nsp; “Never again accept an out-of-the-way word about a Priest, and speak no unkind word (about them) EVEN IF IT WERE TRUE! Every Priest is My Vicar and My heart will be sickened and insulted because of it! If you hear a judgment (against a Priest) pray a Hail Mary.” (28. 6. 1939)

“If you see a Priest who celebrates the Holy Mass unworthily then say nothing about him, rather tell it to Me alone! I stand beside him on the altar!” “Oh pray much for My priests, that they’ll love purity above all, that they’ll celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with pure hands and heart. Certainly the Holy Sacrifice is one and the same even when it is celebrated by an unworthy priest, but the graces called down upon the people is not the same!” (28. 2. 1938)

Our priest gives fiery sermons every week and he speaks the truth regardless of what people want to hear. It is wonderful to do that with such an air of authority. I’ll tell you, he has ‘hit us hard’ a few times and we have had to meke changes. I admire and respect him greatly.

My priest is a dear and loving man of the 1960’s. He is very kind and generous, but I wish he would get fired up in his homilies. It’s okay now and than.
