New Beginnings by Paul Wilkes -

Our parish is planning to use the New Beginnings program by Paul Wilkes to recruite new volunteers and to help in the discernment of our gifts during the month of October - which has been traditionally our parish’s “season of committment”.

I’ve heard some worrisome things about other things that this author has published and am considering bringing this up to our pastor and/or the pastoral council.

We’ve managed to stay pretty orthodox dispite some very liberal folks on our parish staff. This is their proposition.

Have any other parishes had any experience with this program?

What should we expect from this program?

We’ll do this in three consecutive Tuesday nights.

I’ve heard that the second night uses an “instrument” to evaluate who you are, etc. I am not going to be surprised to see a Meyers-Briggs or eniagram there.

I’m interested in this, too - our parish has the same plans. We also have a liberal-dominated parish, and I’ve never heard of Paul Wilkes before. They use the phrase “what it means to be a Catholic today,” which is a big fat red flag. These factors make me extremely suspicious.

If this is the same Paul Wilkes who wrote a ghastly book called “The Good Enough Catholic” which perfectly describes - and extols - the cafeteria Catholic mentality pertaining in many American parishes, I would run screaming to another parish this October as fast as my fat little feet can take me.

Paul Wilkes spoke on MSNBC shortly after the election of Pope Benedict XVI, and stated that this was a “horrible thing.”

We are also going to be using this program. I emailed my diocese with concerning questions just today.

I am interested to know what “other things” Paul Wilkes has published that you are worried about? I guess its bad enough he is quoted as saying, “horrible thing” about our new Holy Father.

I’m not sure if I want to support and attend this “New Beginnings” Our Parish is very liberal, I think mostly because our Priest is.

Have you spoke to your Parish Council or Pastor yet??
