A publisher is touting a new edition of the Gospels that identifies Christ as a woman named Judith Christ of Nazareth.

LBI Institute says its version, Judith Christ of Nazareth, The Gospels of the Bible, Corrected to Reflect that Christ Was a Woman, Extracted from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, takes Thomas Jefferson’s edited Gospel one step futher by “correcting” the gender of Christ and God.

“This long-awaited revised text of the Gospels makes the moral message of Christ more accessible to many, and more illuminating to all,” says Billie Shakespeare, vice president for the publisher, in a statement. “It is empowering. We published this new Bible to acknowledge the rise of women in society.”

WND sought comment from the LBI Institute’s Stephen Glazier, but he did not return messages.

The new version, according to the publisher, revises familiar stories, tranforming the “Prodigal Son” into the “Prodigal Daughter” and the “Lord’s Prayer” into the “Lady’s Prayer.”

A passage compiled from Luke 2, with corresponding verses at the beginning of each sentence, says: “4 And Joseph went to Bethlehem. 5 To be enrolled with Mary, his wife, who was then pregnant. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn child. 21 And her name was chosen to be Judith.”

A passage on the crucifixion, from John 19, says: “17 And She bearing her cross went forth. 18 There they crucified Judith.”

…well…I guess there’s only so much you can do to stop the stupid…this kinda’ makes me long for the days of a Church issued list of ‘banned books’…
 
I truly hoped that this thread was a spoof that someone had fallen for. Unfortunately it isn’t.

Every time I think Bible versions can’t get any worse, they do. Last year it was the “Good as New” version. It must be nice to be in a Welsh language congregation - only 2 translations of the Bible and they’re both good.

It may have happened for real, but this is SOMEONE’s idea of a joke. Could it be… well, you know who I mean. :hmmm:
 
I don’t think this translation even deserves to be called a Bible.

I can understand those who, although misguided, criticize the Church’s treatment of women. The people who put out this translation not only show a complete disregard for two thousand years of teaching and for the word of God present in the Gospels, but they also disregard the historical fact that Jesus was a male. Even from a non-religious standpoint, this is ridiculous.

If there can be a Cotton Patch Version which monkeys around with place names - presumably there can be a version which messes around with the sexes of those mentioned.​

There was that absurd “Christa” crucifix some years ago

What next:

“…under Pontia Pilata” - why not ?

How about a “version” co-starring Marius Magdalenus ?

The Jesus was from Atlantis version ?

The Jesus was an Alien version ?

The Star Trek version ?

The Lord of the Rings Version ?

A Simpsons Version ?

I think there are far too many versions for minority groups.

There should be a ban on new translations for at least 50 years, to give the scholars time to do enough work to justify the appearance of yet another Bible in English: there are far too many already, and very few of them are really necessary. ##

“Many” ? Shouldn’t that be “persony” ? Oh - that’s male-ist too: so, change to: “perdaughtery” - “permothery” - ah, got it; it should be: “perthingy”.​

For “women” read “wothings”.

For “Billie” read “Hillie”

For Christ, read “Christa”

Matthew - read “Samantha”

Mark - read “Maris”

Luke - read “Lucy”

John - read “Jana”

Stumbler,

The primary issue I would have with this is calling it a “translation” and “new edition.” The word “translation” presumes some fidelity to the original text and “edition” implies that no major changes have been made. Calling it a “new Bible” is, I think, a lot more accurate; it is indeed new and has very little at its root in common with the Bible we know and love.

This is my opinion about this “New Translation” - somethings are best to be left to wither on the vine and die, this is one of them. That is my last and only comment on this absurb work and the reasoning behind it.
 
And yet, unfortunately, many will buy it, praise it, quote it and argue it. 😦
 
It’s at times like this that I wish we still had the Inquisition, like back in the good ole days.

I have difficulty, upon further reflection, 1) in referring to this work as “bible,” and 2) using “Gospel” about its contents. Anybody else? If so, what might be more appropriate terms?:confused:
 
Are you SURE this is not justa reprint of soimething issued on April 1st. It’s got to be a windup.
