I have been hearing rumors that there is a new translation of the bible coming out that will replace the NAB. Can anyone confirm this? and if so does anyone know of a time for it’s release?

The NAB has been in stages of revision ever since the 1980s. The revised NT to the NAB was published in 1986. The revised Psalms was published in 1991, but this was rejected by Rome for use in the liturgy, and so was re-revised by the Catholic Biblical Association.

I’ve heard that the complete revised OT to the NAB has been completed, and has been submitted to the Bishops’ Comittee for the Review of Scripture Translations for the Imprimatur.

Parallel to this development to the revised NAB, the Bishops Comittee for Divine Worship is presently working on revising the Lectionary for Mass for the United States. The work, though based on the whole on the NAB, appears to include several departures from the NAB texts. The Bishops have been approving it piecemeal, and no one will know when the whole project will be completed (if ever, seeing the completion of the revised NAB). If it is completed, it will still need Rome’s confirmation for liturgical use, and that could also take a while.
