:dancing: Finally! Hallelujah! At last! Amen! :clapping:

Browsing through my diocesan newspaper today, I just read about a Catholic magazine for teenaged girls. It’s called “True Girl” and it looks like just the kind of magazine I’ve been looking for. I just placed a gift subscription for my cousin, who is 14.

Check it out: www.truegirlonline.com

I wish I could give money to every worthy Catholic apostolate, but I can’t. This is something for which I have been searching high and low for a long time, and will gladly give my $14.95! Hurray!

Its launch issue will be in February. Browsing the website, the following news items were listed that helped me get an impression that it intends to be orthodox:

catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0506971.htm
heraldargus.com/content/story.php?storyid=7134
truegirlonline.com/True_Girl_Press_Release.htm

Its “links” page has links to the Vatican, CA’s own Pure Love Club, as well as vocations & rosary links, among others. Don’t know if that helps answer your question re: orthodox/heterodox, but it’s what I used.

Oh, and info on the publisher & editor from the press release:

“The magazine is personally funded by the Publisher and Editor. Stephanie Murphy, Publisher, has five children of her own and has been an integral part of a Catholic boarding school community in Indiana for 7 years. Murphy, a graduate of Hillsdale College has home schooled her 5 children for the last 5 years and served as communication specialist for her home school network. Brandi Lee, Editor, is an English teacher by training. Before launching True Girl, Brandi taught in the Diocese of Memphis for 2 years and at a Catholic boarding school for three years, where she was responsible for all aspects of teen girls’ experience within the community. Lee is a graduate of the University of Memphis.”

thanks for the info, my almost 9 year old loves to read. i can see ordering this in a few years!

My Godchild just turned 18 - do you think this might still be appropriate for her?

How wonderful. Too bad they didn’t have it 10 years ago when it would have been of good use to me personally, but I could see getting it for my daughters some day. What an awesome concept. 🙂

AWESOME!!! I have a 12 yr old neice (and also my Goddaughter) that could really use this. woohoo!! thanks!

You know, I don’t know. I think it might depend on the girl & her maturity/interests?
Here’s a quote from the article I read about it:

“…The magazine is designed for girls aged 12-to-18, although mothers have been subscribing to it for their 10- and 11-year-old daughters…”

and,

“…We will have a prom gown layout in our April-May issue, with real girls modeling the gowns,” Lee said. “Girls need to know that they can find dresses that are beautiful and that make them feel good about themselves, but that cover everything that should be covered…

Every issue will contain a review of the latest entertainment in music, books, and movies. There will also be a vocations page that gives girls realistic advice about what a vocation really is…"

Oh, btw, here is the link to my diocesan paper’s write-up of it:

Oh, cool. I just subscribed. I am so excited because we let our American Girl subscription lapse due to the boycott, so this will be a great replacement for my daughter.

I just subscribed, and my daughter, 13, is so excited about getting this! 🙂

I emailed this magazine to ask them if they were faithful to the teachings of the Church. I received an email the same day back and they assured me that they are faithful to the Pope and Magisterium. 🙂 .

I read about “True Girl” also and subscribed for my fifteen year old
daughter. I am thrilled as I have been looking for this type of
magazine. I subscribed to “My Friend” for our kids and now
that they are past that age range I was looking for something new.
Now if someone would do ones for teenage boys, that would
be great too! If you have young children “My Friend” is put
out by the Daughters Of St. Paul, I would recommend it to you. 🙂
