I checked Catholic Book Publishing who publishes the NAB St. Joseph edition Bibles and they have this on their site, but they don’t give much more information than the web page you highlighted. If I was to guess, I think it is for the book of Psalms only, but that is only a guess. They also offer a book of Psalms based upon the NIV translation. Apparently nobody wants the ones that are in the NAB (1991 version).

According to Amazon, this book was released in August 2004, so they have been around for awhile.

Yahh, I was on EWTN searching for a Jerusalem Bible and lo and behold, I saw “the Psalms- New Catholic Version: a new translation of the Psalms”

So far I’ve found almost no information on the translation.

I was wondering if there was an entire Bible in the works or if these were the Psalms for the new revised NAB

both answers seem to be “no” 😦

What is this?!?

The Psalms: New Catholic Version

I read the first two Psalms available in the excerpt and its a pretty good translation!

Is there a NCV New Testament in the works?
Will there ever be a complete Bible?
Omyo12:

I know that in the next couple of years, the USCCB is to approve a new translation of the Psalms, which will hopefully be approved by the Holy See for use in the Liturgy. The current NAB translation has language problems which excluded the Psalms from the Liturgy, by the Holy See. The new translation will be a re-worked NAB or RSV. I will look into it and try to get you more info. If it was me, I wouldn’t fork out a dime until this new approved translation comes out in the next couple of years.

The USCCB recently approved the Revised Grail Psalter for the Liturgy and it will be included in the New Roman Missal coming out Advent 2010 or 2011.

However, this will not be the version found in the revised NAB coming out as early as this winter (probably mid-2010)

I hope they release a version like the CTS New Catholic Bible available in the UK for us in the States. It’s the Jerusalem Bible (official UK bible) edited (replacing Yahweh with LORD among other things) and the JB Psalms are replaced by the Grail Psalter. So its really the exact Bible read in mass.

Thanks for the info, Omyo12. Hopefully there won’t be any more disconnects between the USCCB and the Holy See on any of these issues.

My guess is that the Current NAB Psalms will be reworked and put in the new addition of the NAB when it is released. That avoids any copyright issues that could cost money and put restictions on its use. Just my guess.
