I just finished reading the thread where new Catholics shared what they love about the Church. It was a wonderful thing to read. Almost everyone loves receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist best of all.

In his recent letter about the Holy Eucharist, our Holy Father Pope Benedict has pointed out the strong connection between the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the worthy and profitable reception of the Eucharist.

So, for all of you who love to receive Holy Communion, it’s about time to…
GO TO CONFESSION!
As Lent began this year, there were some posts from people who had entered the Church through RCIA last year, who had not yet made their first Confessions. No one had encouraged them to come to this wonderful Sacrament, and they did not know what to do and were getting quite anxious about it.

So here I am to encourage you. It’s been almost a month since the Easter Vigil - plenty of time to commit a few sins you really regret. Monthly confession is a good interval to begin with. You won’t have time to get into too much trouble or to forget your sins as you would if you waited, say, until Christmastime.

Here are links to a very thorough examination of conscience to get you started. Mortal sins here. Venial sins here. If you made a confession before being received into the Church as a baptized Christian, you know what you’re doing, so come on back and do it again! If you were baptized at the Easter Vigil, simply tell the priest that it is your first Confession, and he’ll be just delighted to help you out. There are lots of threads around that would be helpful, or you could start a new one if you have questions.

I will tell you, from personal experience, there is nothing in this world like hearing the words of absolution spoken to you. It’s a perfectly wonderful experience.

Thank you, Betsy for the reminder.
I couldn’t emphasize enough how wonderful the Sacrament is.

As a new Catholic I love this Sacrament!! I was a candidate so I went for my 1st confession in March. Actually, thanks for the reminder too, I’m planning to go again on Wednesday!

BTW, I thought it was good that in our parish that our RCIA director said that the newly baptized had to go within 2 weeks after the Easter Vigil so that they could make their 1st confession too.

Yes, monthly confessions sounds right to me too. I also made my first confession in March. From that time on I was wondering how will I know when it’s time to go back.

I found out this past week when it was time to go back. At my parish they have one daytime Mass that is in the evening. I guess so that people who have jobs can go to a daytime Mass. Well, I didn’t go that night because of a particular sin that reared it’s ugly head that very day. I knew I could not in good conscience take the Eucharist if I went.

I was in the confessional booth the following Saturday. Anything that keeps me from receiving the Lord in the Eucharist will get me to confession.

Please, do not hesitate to attend Mass even if you cannot recieve the Eucharist. Recieving the Eucharist is not a requirement (With the exception of around Easter). I have been to Mass several times where I was unable. Just let everyone else out of the pew and kneel back down.

Thank you for the reminder. I should get to confession soon.

I was baptized on March 15, 1981 and then received back into the Church through the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 15, 2005. It took me three weeks to realize this! I had no idea it was the same day, 24 years later!

Too bad it took me that long to come back home, but I’m happy now. 😃

That’s a wonderful invitation. Thank you. And a serious temptation for me towards pride. 😉 My husband and I have been trying for weekly confession- we discussed it before our reception. I think he’s been three times since Easter, and I’ve been twice. I would like to go every week, but work doesn’t always permit it.

Confession is one of my favourite things about being Catholic.
