The new congregation of Dominican Sisters of Bridgeport split off from a more progressive congregation, and have adopted a habit:

Did they actually form a new congregation? Or are they planning to?

I wonder if the sisters who wear the habit are the only sisters teaching there, or if there are others who choose not to wear it.

The two sisters are forming a new congregation. They had been in white-over-black civvies with a Dominican cross, but decided it was time to actually look the part of sisters.

Great to see them strengthen their Dominican roots… and adopt the habit as well!

Actually, this group (of which there are more than 2) separated canonically from the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2009. The Peace congregation represents a merger of 7 Dominican congregations, including the Ohio sisters of St. Mary of the Springs (Columbus), in which these women originally belonged.

Not all the sisters in this community wear a habit, at least as of now.

I don’t believe the Dominican “roots” of the Dominican Sisters of Peace have ever been in question; I’ve visited several of the congregations that merged and know several of their members, and they are clearly and definitely Dominican. Wearing a habit is not the only (or even the primary) indication of charism, after all…

It’s so refreshing to see religious taking up the habit and not abandoning it. I’ll certainly be offering a Rosary for them.

I’m not sure where I should post this question but as it happened with this thread I’ll ask it here.

Please explain how the following can happen on CAF. I’ve just received a notification that someone has posted on this thread. I clicked on the notification and was brought to this thread. However, no one had posted after my last post although the notification implies otherwise. Indeed, the member the notification said had posted has made no posts on this thread.

It is so refreshing to see consecrated religious wearing the habit once more! The habit is a constant reminder of their vocation, and it serves to easily identify them to the lay people around them.
