New Find Concerning Evolution

I think the Church requires us to believe that all men descended from one parent couple (Adam and Eve) - I don’t think it requires us to believe that Eve was formed physically from Adam. Furthermore, how could Eve have a soul if not infused by God - certainly her soul didn’t exist inside Adam before she existed.

I would posit that the meaning of the verses which tell us about Eve being made from Adam are symbolic of the natural order of the man over the woman - equal in dignity but different in nature.

This is speculation however, and if the Church has deemed it otherwise I will submit absolutely to its authority.

DID WOMAN EVOLVE FROM THE BEASTS?
A DEFENSE OF TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC DOCTRINE

Rev. Brian W. Harrison, O.S., M.A., S.T.D.
Associate Professor of Theology,

Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to defend a doctrinal thesis which is quite simple, very clear, very classical, but now very unpopular—not to say openly scorned and derided. I will argue that the formation by God of the first woman, Eve, from the side of the sleeping, adult Adam had, by the year 1880, been proposed infallibly by the universal and ordinary Magisterium of the Catholic Church as literally and historically true; so that this must forever remain a doctrine to be held definitively (at least) by all the faithful. I would express the thesis in Latin as follows:
Definitive tenendum est mulierem primam vere et historice formatam esse a Deo e latere primi viri dormientis.

Thanks for that document buffalo. Consider my opinion changed. It would appear that I was wrong on this issue. Please disregard my previous comments which were not in accord with the teachings of the Church.

Glad to help. I argue in defense of scripture and the clear consistent belief and understanding of the Church. This helps illuminate my interpretations of what science is saying. Faith and reason cannot be opposed for they flow from the very same God. The problem I have seen is scientism where some are trying to adjust Revelation to suit their current interpretation of the data.

That is an admirable reply showing (what is sadly in these kinds of discussions) a rare integrity and Catholic spirit. Thanks, wraithx. I hope I’ll always have that kind of faith also when called by God to show it.

Hello friends - I studied evolution and t-cell immunization. I studied 37 rivers of evolution under Stephan Jay Gould at Harvard University. I believed in evolution until I was in my second year of study under the world’s foremost authoriy on the subject. Jim Davis of Harvard U. Chemistry dept. as well solved the case for me. I can only tell you as a former staunch evolutionist and bio-chem major, that it is the biggest hoax and most detailed form of attempted intimidation against the sentiment of the religious mind in all the history of mankind. A simple commentated study of Darwin’s Descent of Man and same author’s Origen of Species should do the trick for the honest mind. Read Darwin’s “problems with the theory”, the second part of the text. Darwin, if nothing else, was an honest man and no devil. He admits he is attempting a theory, and that the theory is basically (name removed by moderator)robable.
Again-my intense studies of evolution at the highest level of academics (15 hour labs, etc) at Harvard were enough to convince me that evolution is, in plain terms, rubbish.
-Thanks and bless you all - Sean.

That is an awesome testimony. 👍 I’ll say also that you’ve got more academic credentials in evolutionary theory than any dozen of Darwinian-defenders I see here all the time.

I don’t know how anyone could give an honest review of Darwinian theory and not recognize it as a preposterous idea and clearly biased against a God-centered view of life.

As a matter of fact - my studies in evolution led me directly back into the One,True, Holy, Catholic, and Roman Church. I had left for nine years to emigrate into the more “enlightened” protestantism of the Puritans. While I studied evolution, I usually, like the rest of the students and faculty, spent my entire day beyond sleeping, in the Harvard U. science building. I loved it and so did the others. As a matter of fact, some actually slept in the offices of their mentors. It was indeed a religion - one that I, as well as the others, loved and would have died for. A true religion. If anyone thinks that evolution is either true or a friend to the Catholic, you are decieved. We, as well as our professors, truly hated not only religion, but “religious” people. What surprises me most today, when I meet people who say “I believe in evolution” is when I simply and inoffensively play it up and ask them “wow, evolution has always interested me, can you explain it to me a little?” and inevitably, they say something along the lines of " uh, I don’t know, -fossil evidence, chimpanzees, missing links, stuff… I…I… I guess". I feel horrible for these people. A fake theory - deliberately meant to suppress the wonderful truths of the Church, with a genesis (no pun intended) not more than 200 years old, entrenched in the most hateful type of german humanism - foisted upon us as science. The fossil evidence ( as one who has seen it with my very eyes ) is very convincing at first glance. Makes you wonder. spend 6 years devoted to it for approx. 18 hours a day, dreaming about it as well - and you come to the conclusion that to believe this massive hoax, one would have to do so for reasons other than the facts. One thing that I believe is true - the earth according to my evaluations is likely almost one million years old, but being an honest scientist ( an anomoly you will not often find ) I must admit that I may be completely wrong because in truth we have no idea how old the age of the earth is. As Einstein said: “we do not know one tenth of one millionth about anything.” In any case the most scientifically loyal theory I have found is found in Genesis 1 and 2. 🙂 Praise be to the One and Only True and Living God, Jesus Christ. 🙂 -Sean
