From this blog, here is a good post about the new ICEL translation for the Mass. Here are a few of the new translations, but if you read the whole post, there is lots more information on there. The link to the new text is here. It’s good to see the more traditional and accurate wording.

Old ICEL
Look with favor on these offerings and accept them as once you accepted the gifts of your servant Abel, the sacrifice of Abraham, our father in faith, and the bread and wine offered by your priest Melchizedek.

New ICEL
Be pleased to look upon them, with a serene and kindly gaze, and to accept them as you were pleased to accept the gifts of your just servant Abel, the sacrifice of Abraham, our father in faith, and the offering of your high priest Melchizedek, a holy sacrifice, a spotless victim.

Old ICEL
he took the cup

New ICEL
he took this precious chalice into his holy and venerable hands,

wow, I kinda like the cleaner translation. Still a few rough spots, but I think this translation gives us a more transcendent worship.
 
I can’t wait for the new translation!

It is comforting to know that even if the new translation isn’t the greatest possible translation, at least it cannot be as horrible and unfaithful to the Latin as the current translation.

I’ll never understand why, for Eucharistic Prayer I (the Roman Canon) especially, the translators don’t just borrow from a TLM missal, e.g., the St. Joseph Sunday/Daily Missal; their translations were far superior to ANYTHING ICEL has ever produced.

It is good though, that we are getting a better translation. Baby steps, I guess. 😉
 
Hmm. It’ll take some getting used to, but I agree the language is more exalted in the new translation.

(Though I think I still prefer “From age to age you gather a people to yourself, so that from east to west a perfect offering may be made to the glory of your name” to the revised version. “From age to age” is just so evocative.)

I notice – and no one has yet commented on this – that the phrase “for you and for all” in the consecration of the wine into the Precious Blood remains unchanged. I understood that the return to “for many” was one of the known changes in the new translation, and one celebrated by many folks on this forum especially who are uncomfortable with “for all.”

This is ICEL’s translation, so am I correct in thinking it still needs to be submitted to Rome, and additional changes might be requested then? Or is this the approved version?

The change for “for all” to “for many” was a directive from the Vatican and not part of the ICEL product. I believe that that change is to be implemented this year even if we have to wait longer for the whole translation.

We don’t ever expect to see it in Canada. The CCCB will find a way to confound it, just like they did to the GIRM, and the NRSV translation that they insist on using, and oh, yes, let’s not forget that they refused to accept Humane Vitae.
 
Product Recalls keep coming to mind.
Ya know, when Ford, GM, Toyo, Etc. advertise their product as the greatest & latest, then 4yrs later people are gettin killed by them, and after a certain number of souls…err people r killed, they have a Product Recall to fix that which was alleged perfect 4yrs ago.

I think we beat Thomas Cranmer’s recall campaigns

The current official text of the Mass of Paul VI is the typical edition of the Roman Missal promulgated in 2000 and issued in Latin in 2002; translations into the vernacular are in production. Two earlier typical editions of the revised Missal were issued in 1970 (promulgated in 1969) and 1975.

Actually, it didn’t make it thru the first year. As I understand it, Paul VI forgot to mention that the Mass is a Sacrifice in the original.
 
and they put in “Consubstantial with the Father” 👍 instead of that theological nonsense that the USCCB approved “one in Being”

All existance is from the Father, so the grass on my lawn is “one in Being with the Father”…but it’s not “Consubstantial with the Father”
 
What’s up with translating “propter nos homines” as “for us and for our salvation” instead of “for us men and for our salvation?”

Seems like there’s a lot of feminist language working its way into the new translation.

1969 version:

Article 2: This is the reason why Christ the Lord instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his body and blood and entrusted it to the Church, his beloved Bride, as the memorial of his passion and resurrection.

Article 55. f. Offering: in this memorial, the Church-and in particular the Church here and now assembled-offers the spotless victim to the Father in the Holy Spirit.

Article 259: At the altar the sacrifice of the cross is made present under sacramental signs.

If you want slightly more mundane ones look at no. 55a, and no. 153
