Wow.

I just cant get over the concept of being disfellowshipped, its scary. Im starting to understand why some people dont leave even though they might not be comfortable with some of the JW teachings. Your as good as dead if you leave the way I see it now, no family, no friends, no help, all alone. It really struck me when gina talked about how important it is for a JW to have a trustworthy non-JW friend. After she said that I understood just how much help these guys need from us, not as a doctrine debate but a “salt of the earth” example.

Hello,

I enjoy a good conversion story, and have read more than a few. Most conversions stories leave me with the impression that the convert has a true fondness for their old religion, and is even happier as a Catholic.

But the JW conversion stories give me the impression that they were not happy as JW’s. Why so?

I can only answer for myself… Being a JW is like being on a treadmill … as soon as you get to a certain level, somebody is turning up the speed. Say you go out in service - you keep track of your time & you put in 10 hours that month… wonderful… but next month maybe a better goal would be 15? Maybe the next month a better goal would be to auxillary pioneer (30)… it’s like being in sales… honestly. Also, you have to give up SOOOOO MUCH. No holdiays - no close ties to family or friends who aren’t JW’s - just meetings, meetings & more meetings (all of which require study before hand) and time spent in service. Not a fun life.

And you know how as Catholics we aren’t to judge others? They do NOTHING BUT judge each other… who is more spiritual… based on (not their heart - which only God knows) but how much time they put in. It’s a stressful life.

Then… by the grace of God & the power of the Holy Spirit you come to realize that EVERYTHING you’ve been taught is a great big lie. NONE of it is true. It makes for some very bad memories & feelings of time wasted. 😦
