"New" Latin Vulgate?

I heard that the Church released a revised or “New” Latin Vulgate Bible to overcome the shortcomings of St. Jerome’s original Latin Vulgate.
Is this true?
If this is true, what translation is there of this “New” Latin Vulgate? (NSV,CRSV, RSV-CE, St. Jerome’s???)

Also, why don’t people ever like the older St. Jerome’s Edition Bible with “modern language”. Talk about an easy read- also it seems much more “catholic” of a translation than many modern catholic bible’s I’ve read. In some cases even more so than the Ignatius Press CRSV bible.

The Nova Vulgata is the old Vulgate corrected according to the latest biblical science. It has been kept as close as possible to the original Vulgate even to the use of the same grammar and vocabulary. There is no translation of it. Today, the Church encourages translations from the original text.

Would the world end if it was ever translated into English?

Would the world end if TLM was ever celebrated in English?

The greatest thing ever written in Latin–the bible–isn’t translated directly into curent day English.

Who knows? Maybe if the Nova Vulgata was translated directly into English–maybe people would like it–read it–and buy it.

Would that be a bad thing?

Wouldn’t you rather have a great modern English translation of the Bible from the original texts, just like the Vulgate ? Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox with help from literary people could get together, as they did for the French TOB.

Why would the Church encourage translations of the Old Vulgate if it is inaccurate? What exactly do you mean by latest “biblical science”?

There are no “original texts”, unless you are referring to the Vulgate as the “most original”. Most of the “original texts” have been lost to time in referring to the greek, hebrew and aramaic texts… wisdom,tobit, etc… or am I incorrect on this point?

you make such good points. I am not fond of the Nova Vulgata, but there is no reason why it shouldn’t be translated into modern day English. As for the TLM, it would nice to hear it in English, but I don’t think such thing would flow with the Vatican. I have great reverance for the TLM and Pre Vatican II liturgy and think that person should be well rounded with Catholic liturgy
