New Lectionary in UK?

I was looking up the NRSV Catholic Edition on Amazon as it was recommended on here, and noted this in the blurb:

The NRSV is increasingly becoming the most popular translation among Catholics, and it will be used in the new edition of the Lectionary which is coming soon. The much loved Grail Psalms are already in wide liturgical use, and will continue to be.

So is the UK getting a new lectionary, and does this mean that the Jerusalem Bible will no longer be used in Mass? Thanks!

Yes, indeed, the UK as well as a number of other English speaking countries, minus the USA (NAB) and Canada (NRSV), will be getting new lectionaries. The issue is to what will be the base translation for it. Initially, it was going to be a revised NRSV, like Canada, but there is now talk that it might be a revised ESV:

It is still a bit unclear as to who will be getting what, but there will indeed be a new lectionary in most English speaking countries in the coming year or so. No matter what translation they ultimately go with, the Revised Grail Psalms will be used.

Hi Alfie,

I guess you’re now aware that the NRSV will probably not be the translation now used for the new Lectionary, but that it will probably an adaptation of the ESV instead?

My father-in-law lives very close to Shrewsbury, by the way. Also, I’m hearing that your Bishop (who seems to be absolutely first-rate) has written a letter for the first Sunday of Lent that is going to blow people out of the pews! Can’t wait to see that!
