Here’s a shopping tip that might be equally helpful to both mom and a toddler.
With my most recent child (now just a little over 2), I’ve started realizing that it’s preferable for us to go grocery shopping multiple times a week. I’d previously been doing huge mega-shopping trips once or twice a week, but have recently switched to going something like three times a week, which is more relaxed. At least for us (me at home with toddler, big kids at school during the day), I find with that it’s easier to keep well-supplied with fresh produce when visiting the store frequently. With a longer lag between visits, there’s a tendency to run out of fresh fruits and vegetables and hence to eat packaged stuff. With our 2-year-old, I also notice that fruit becomes more glamorous when she has seen it in the store and in the cart and has been waiting impatiently to get home and eat it. (I got this idea this morning when out grocery shopping with my toddler and she grabbed some grapes and was about to throw them in the cart.) I suspect the same principle applies to mommies–I’ve got a big container of fresh raspberries that I’m REALLY excited about.
I’ve quoted my mother-in-law before, but here it is again: Americans bathe once a day and shop weekly. Europeans bathe weekly and shop every day.
