New Study: Direct Link Between Abortion and Mental Health Problems

Washington, DC – A new research study featuring numerous controls and a national data set finds a link between abortion and psychiatric disorders. The study directly contradicts the report the American Psychiatric Association released in August claiming abortion causes no mental health issues for women.

The research team found induced abortions result in increased risks for a myriad of mental health problems ranging from anxiety to depression to substance abuse disorders.

Ultimately, the authors write that abortion is directly “responsible for more than 10% of the population incidence of alcohol dependence, alcohol abuse, drug dependence, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and bipolar disorder” among all Americans.

Well what do you think is more likely?

Do you think that abortion actually does cause severe mental illness, or alternatively that procuring abortion is a symptom of mental illness?

Chicken and egg question here.

I have suffered with bi-polar disorder for fifty years; alcoholism and drug abuse joined the party in 1966. The bi-polar disorder came on before I entered my teens; alcoholism and drug abuse began at age 14 with a deliberate overdose of Dramamine for hallucinatory kicks and ended with cocaine and heroin. My abortion took place when I was 18 years old, long after I was well into mental, emotional, physical and spiritual quicksand. Throw onto the heap incest, followed by a generous portion of childhood sexual abuse.

No one can tell which conditions or situations precipitated the others. Somebody got a grant and wanted to support his or her agenda so they did a little study which convinces me of nothing. I’m living proof that science is behind the curve when attempting to disentangle cause and effect when it comes to substance abuse, abortion, and “nature vs. nurture”.

The thing about chicken-and-egg questions is, a chicken produces many eggs, which contain chickens that produce many eggs; soon there are a lot more chickens and eggs than one began with. I wasn’t Ms. Levelheaded America when I was talked into my abortion, but it sure sent me into a tailspin like I’d never seen before. Afterward I had a lot of periods of denial of the meaning of what I’d done. During one of them, I might have been all the more capable of doing it again. If so, it might have made me much sicker. But I finally became ready to face the facts and seek God’s forgiveness and move forward.
