Does anyone know what the Catechism says about how to view the Old Testament laws, after the New Testament was written? This is concerning the “Sin of Onan”. Was it the act of not fathering his brothers children that was wrong, or letting his seed fall to the ground? Thanks.

Gn 38:9-10 God killed Onan for spilling seed [see next]
Dt 25:5-10 - penalty for defying Levirate law: not death

While the disciplines of Old Testament laws aren’t binding on us, any natural law issues… issues of intrinsic good and evil most certainly still apply. This includes avoiding the intrinsic evil of frustrating the marital act, and thus refusing God’s dominion in the creation of a soul with which we merely participate.
