I’m sure that Mother Angelica was influential. But the website identifies the foundress as Mother Mary Gabriel Long. Interestingly, she started religious life as a member of the Nashville Dominicans, and her blood sister is Mother Mary Assumpta Long, now of the Ann Arbor Dominican Sisters of Mary.

Fellow parishioners from our church in Knoxville had a sibling to enter the SsEWs when they were first founded. IIRC, they said Mother Angelica had wanted to host retreats, but that would not have worked with her cloistered life. Therefore, the SsEWs were founded to host the retreats. Since the foundress page stated that Sister Mary Gabriel Long, OP, had been working with Mother Angelica already, there is a high likelihood that the latter had a great influence – hence the combined spiritualities – which could almost give her the title of co-foundress. (However, knowing Mother Angelica, she would probably refuse such)!
