I am surprised by all the early morning masses on New Years Day. This is the Holy Day I probably forget most often is a Holy Day and the mass availability definitely doesn’t help. Going to mass is a beautiful thing I enjoy celebrating thus I wish there were more masses today, especially more the evening variety.

Just needed to vent my frustration. Of course, I live in an urban area where I am incredibly used to flexibility and convenience. I am not used to a limited schedule. I do have a church that is 10 minutes away and 10+ churches to choose from that are all about 25-30 minutes away.

I have about 5 churches in walking distance, and all of them had one early morning mass at the same time, well before I woke up. To get to mass, I’m going to have to move my car (when you do street parking and don’t have a driveway it’s an issue) for a 5pm mass about 25 minutes away. That’s my vent.

There are also masses on Dec 31 in the evening for the holy day.

Frankly, you need to plan ahead or else don’t stay up so late if you are going to early mass.

Be thankful for your urban area with choices. We share a priest with 2 other parishes and we have one mass for holy days at our parish.

Yes days like today make me feel grateful for the convenience we normally have. Convenience definitely makes it easier for us to work mass into our plans rather than our plans around the mass schedule. We are really lucky! It also allows us to practice our interfaith relationship - going to both the Protestant and Catholic church each Sunday and to truly support one another.

It is so easy just to take it for granted. Thanks for the insight.

My New Year is off to a bad start. No midnight Mass, so I set my alarm to attend
the only Mass offered today at 9. I know my alarm was set because it said I had 6 hours and 29 minutes left before the alarm sounded. I know I did not wake up
and turn the alarn off because it still shows the time you set until deleted and the
time had disappeared and I KNOW not only did I NOT turn off my alarm, but I did NOT delete it either.

The January 1st Mass is one of my favorite masses of the year. I woke up at 9:06 and was so disappointed.

Another friend wanted to go to the Adoration chapel last night and be with Jesus
when the New Year began. She told me that the 83 year old niece she lives with and cares for fell last night so not only did she not get to go to the Adoration chapel, but she had to take her niece to the ER this morning so she also missed
Mass.

I told her I guess God had other plans for us today. She lost her husband of 62
years last year so I think being with Jesus last night in the Adoration chapel
with her niece was where she really wanted to be. The 83 year old niece is her
husband’s sister. The niece has the mind of a 5 year old. I know how hard it must be for her to be the sole carwgiver to the niece since her husband died.
The niece has lived with them for 14 years since the mother died. I tell my
friend ahe is a saint.
