Spring Valley, NY (LifeNews.com) – A New York man who killed his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to have an abortion was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison after he beat her repeatedly with a baseball bat. However, he was not held accountable for the death of the girl’s unborn child because New York has a conflicting unborn victims law.

I am confused by this. Was he sentenced to 22 years in prison or life in prison?

The sentence means that he will serve a minimum of 22 years in prison. After this, he may go on parole, but i’m not sure of the NY laws, so i don’t know how long he could have to submit to parole rules. He could potentially serve the rest of his life (22+ years) in jail.

Let’s hope so! How awful. I hope he gets some spiritual support in prison.

Wow. A minimum of 22 years? That is not much at all.
lol, you should watch the news in England…

if you get a life sentence that actually means you get a max of 25 years…but they still call it life. Except serial killers who the home secretary has to intervene and keep them locked up for their own safety which happens very rarely.

In the UK I have seen murderers get sentenced to ten years and been out in six as they get shorter sentences if they behave in jail!!!

Pax vobiscum!

And I’m sure that all the pro-**“choice” **organizations are all condemning this man, right? I mean, he took away her choice, didn’t he? Oh, wait, I haven’t heard anything from them about this, or about that girl in Italy who was forced to have an abortion. Could it be that they really don’t care about choice at all? I mean, their ends were met here, the baby died. So sad.

This is not an abortion case. This man would have killed any number of people for any number of reasons. My guess is he to will be eligible for reduced time for good behavior. He may well not achieve such. One should consider this man is 23 thus he has less than 17 years of memory, while his sentence is a minimum of 22 years. He will live in jail longer than he has known of life.

What is of interest in your post at least to me is the comments of the reporter on their understanding of what is a human under New York law. “Ross was not charged with killing Ebron’s baby because a “person” that is the victim of a homicide is statutorily defined as a “human being who has been born and is alive.”…” Under New York statutory law, the killing of an “unborn child” after twenty-four weeks of pregnancy is homicide, but that provision appears to conflict with the homicide statues. "… %between%http://www.lifenews.com/state2141.html. This to me is another crime in action! Law makers appear to be in no hurry to rectify this condition and that is a huge problem. Had this mother lived and the baby died no murder charge could be seriously considered and that is sad. All killing has unintended consequences and this is one. In their attempts to have legal abortion they have developed a huge problem here. The law that protects a doctor from abortion related death protects others, as this guy. How many more of these will it take before the lawmakers see a problem with what they have done.
