Please help with this dilemma. I joined the Newman Club at my college recently. They have a Bible study meeting every Thursday starting 2:30 and ending 4:30. They are thinking of changing the time to Monday because several members including myself can’t really attend at the current time. My reason is this: I have to play the accordion at the store I work at every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. My Thursday hours happen to start at 3:30. The store I work and play at is approximately 24-25 minutes away from my college (30 if counting walking to my car.) Thus, I can’t really stay at the meetings very long at all. Last time all I got to do was meet the advisor professor, the club president, and who I guess was either the advisor’s assistant or a guy who works for the Church.

Should I ask my boss to make my accordion time 30 minutes later on Thursday? I want to meet other young Catholics who take their faith seriously so I can help myself grow in faith, learn more about how to resist sin, find some more guys to hang out with, and possibly find a Catholic girlfriend. However, my boss is an atheist and he probably wouldn’t understand the importance of meeting people who take their faith seriously.

What should I do?

People who hire college students do so with the understanding they have demanding schedules. I think you suffer from paralysis of analyzation. This is not a complicated situation. You just go over and say, “Hi ya boss, I found a campus group I’d like to join. Would it be ok if I played from 5 to 7 rather than 4 to 6?”

Thats it. No fuss, no drama, just a little “adulting”.
