I was discerning with this order for a time, but I discovered through prayer that I am called elsewhere. However, I try to check in from time to time and pray for vocations. I learned, through searching Google for news on the Savannah Carmelites that their monastery has had a rebirth of vocations! At a time when they recently totaled 4 nuns, they now total 8! It seems their prayers have been answered! However, I found it rather interesting that both the nuns that I was corresponding with are not in pictures, nor in the head count. It leaves me scratching my head. I wonder what happened (did they transfer?). 🤷

Anyway, here is the article:

Here is the longer version (you have to keep scrolling to see the beautiful pictures of their history):

When did the nuns in Savanna go back to wearing habits? The last time I was on their website they were all in lay clothing.

They always wore at least the brown tunic. They started wearing the veil (except the one nun that you can see) and brown scapular again around 2007 or 2008. I found a Serra Newsletter for the Savannah Diocese in 2007 with Sr. Joann (the one I have lost track of) not wearing a veil, then in 2008, I saw the same newsletter with a picture of her wearing the veil.

This is the 2007 newsletter:

I cannot find the 2008 one.

Here is another news feature on the Kenyan nuns and their fruitful attempts to save the Carmel in Savannah.

It says that Sr. Mary Elizabeth Angaine is now the Prioress. Sr. Joann was the former prioress.
