so i finished with my assignment on romans and daniel. Now, i got another paper…AUGUSTINE! My topic is The effect of Augustine on Christian Theology. I took out Confessions, City of God, and printed out articles from the Catholic Encyclopedia and Butler’s Lives of the Saints. Now, I’m looking for some more good reading material. For the next month or so, my life will be consisting of St. Augustine, more Augustine, coffee, even more Augustine, and the Buffalo Sabres. If anyone knows of a good book/article on Augustine that’s out there, please feel free to throw it my way.

Peace and goodness,
~Mario

Why not simply go to new advent site, and read him for yourself.

Hey Nita!🙂

Yeah, I submitted the paper with all the corrections. I knew my tenses were screwed. I have a tendency to do that when I write. I knew I was doing it while I was writing it, but I figured I’d just change it later. I added a couple more themes and handed it in. My professor was shocked that I wrote 12 pages because the assignment was suppose to be 6! I think I got a good grade!👍

Thanks for the link! I took out some books at the library on Augustine.

Augustine of Hippo by Peter Brown
Religion and Society in the Age of Augustine by Peter Brown
A Companion to the Study of St. Augustine by Roy W. Battenhouse
St. Augustine: Essays on His Age, Life, and Thought by Meridian Books

Has anyone read any of these? Does anyone know a good resource on Augustine that would be useful to me?

The effect of Augustine one Christian Theology? How many pages do you have? Or should I say, how many books do you have to cover the topic? I don’t think it would be overstating the case to say that St. Augustine was the single most influential theologian in the Western Church at least until St. Thomas Aquinas and Aquinas referred to Augustine quite a bit in his works. In addition, Augustine doctrine of sin was extremely influential on the early Protestants, particularly John Calvin.

Just a thought, but one approach you might include in this paper is a statistical analysis of how often he is cited in other major theological works compared to the citation of other theologians.
