NFP after pregnancy?

In an effort not to highjack another thread, how accurate is NFP (both the Creighton? and Temp? methods - sorry, forgot the spellings from the post) after having a child?

We (err - I, well, I guess my husband won’t either - LOL!) will not be breast-feeding (no lectures, please). We are also “stuck” with the doctors that are assigned to us, so finding an NFP friendly doctor is not really a choice.

We are open to more children, just not so soon after the first! Our true NFP will come from a deployment :).

I haven’t read any of the other threads yet, so I am not sure how familiar you are with praciticing NFP. But if you are not planning on breastfeeding, you SHOULD have a return of menses (and return of fertility) within 4-6 weeks postpartum. Since you can’t (well, shouldn’t) resume intercourse until your postpartum check, I would resume checking your fertility signs as soon as you stop bleeding and using NFP should be no different than someone who has not just had a baby. I am 6 months postpartum, and am breastfeeding, but am not lucky enough to have lactational amenorrhea. My menses returned at 2 months after both pregnancies (I have a 22 month old also). Even breastfeeding I was able to chart my fertility signs successfully. My children are so close in age (16 months apart) because we did not have any reason to prevent another pregnancy - and low and behold we conceived! But if you do feel that you need to avoid pregnancy, NFP should work just as well.

NFP is effective in the situation you describe. You can take classes long-distance (Creighton) or home study (STM).
