Could we please have a forum where the NFP topics can be transferred to (just asking not a computer person;-) Or, can we just start a NFP forum to be added to…If there is anyone like me, I need all the help I can get. So many have already given great advice but, now it would be nice to have a place to ask about all the little intricacies of NFP.

Here is a question for all of you NFPers. What did you do when you decided to use NFP to prevent pregnancy before you got it down? Please be honest, I know that NFP should have been used all along…
Thanks

Potassium–

DH and I learned NFP before we got married as part of our marriage prep. I didn’t chart diligently, though, as we wanted to start our marriage trying to conceive and thought it would be a piece of cake. When we didn’t end up with a honeymoon baby, I began to chart using the sympto-thermal method and the software available on tcoyf.com. I highly recommend both the method and the software/website. While the website is not Catholic, the method is identical to the sympto-thermal method with the one exception of NFP promoting abstainence during the fertile period and the other promoting barrier methods during the fertile period. We just practice it the NFP way, but use the book *Taking Charge of Your Fertility *by Toni Weschler and the corresponding software and website (which has very informative sections in the forums and the chart galleries for those learning NFP).

For the most part of our marriage, we’ve been using NFP to conceive, however, there’s a decent chance that may change as we go through more testing for infertility. I guess we’re not the textbook example of a couple who learns NFP to try to avoid. 🤷

Anyway, hope that helps! 👍

I second that - there are so many threads on it, it would be nice to maybe have a sub-forum like how the Parenting one works?

I only started to chart (Billings method) a couple of months before our wedding so we weren’t entirely certain of identifying fertility when we started, and we were trying to avoid.

We decided to abstain during the first infertile phase (between my period and the onset of fertility) for the first couple of cycles so I could learn properly about what the onset of fertility felt like.

We also added an extra 2 days of abstaining on the end of the fertile period for the first cycle, to account for the fact that we weren’t entirely sure we were right. That dropped to an extra 1 day, and now (4 months later) we’re comfortable that I can read my cycles well enough.

Any time we had doubts, we just abstained an extra day. Hope that helps you - best of luck!

Thanks, we are trying to find a class in our area for NFP. Unfortunately, most of the classes are approximately 1 hr away. I have been charting for quite some time, about 6 months before we conceived our daughter. So, I feel rather comfortable with the signs of ovulation however, we all have months where things do not go as planned and I need some additional information. Also, I feel awful that we have been utilizing condoms for birth control and I no longer will use them. However, given that my husband is not Catholic it is difficult to convince him that we need to wait until there is additional certainty regarding fertility.

I’ve had this thought too…a separate forum would be a great place to go directly for NFP questions…

Is there a moderator for this forum or are there many, many…I am pleased to see the interest.

The forum is a great idea.

I’m learning NFP to delay Child #4. You could say we are “taking our chances” until we get it perfected. But we won’t be heartbroken if God sends #4 while we are learning!

I took birth control years ago. Ever since I had my last two babies, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it again. I have become much closer to the Church in the meantime also. I am a little worried, because I am getting into my late 30’s. I definitely want to become an NFP Master by the time I am 40!

I also have the TCOYF software mentioned above. I don’t think I could do NFP without it, because I am sidetracked so easily with the little ones. Every time I turn on the computer I am reminded to enter my temp. and symptoms, and then the chart is automatic. It’s great!🙂

I would also like to see a central place for NPF discussion. I started NFP 6 months ago and still consider myself a beginner. The TCOYF software is AMAZING… I don’t think I could manage without it!
