I attended a talk tonight at my church on NFP and was just wondering, since the church is against masturbation because it doesnt result in creation of life, why does it support NFP, I mean, having sex when the woman is infertile still results in ejaculation so isnt it like we’re trying to dupe God? Because the act isnt creative and both partners are aware it isnt, so isnt the sperm ‘wasted’ just as in masturbation?

No. When a person masturbates, they are doing it in a lustful manner. When the couple is practing NFP, they are practicing in a marital embrace which God doesn’t consider a waste because of the unitive aspect(which God designed our bodies to do). With NFP God is part of the plan. So if the couple is not planning on a child, but God wants that couple to have one anyway, there would be nothing artificial standing in their way.

This is not the reason the Church teaches masterbation is intrinsically disordered.

It is a misuse of the sexual faculties. Properly ordered sexual activity results in a completed act of intercourse between a married couple. Properly ordered sexual activity is both unitive and procreative, objectively speaking.

Masterbation is neither.

A completed act of intercourse is not disordered in any way.

As you state, it results in ejaculation-- but it occurs inside the woman, where it belongs. In masterbation, this is not the case.
Because the act isnt creative and both partners are aware it isnt, so isnt the sperm ‘wasted’ just as in masturbation?
No.

And, moreover, the sperm being ‘wasted’ isn’t the reason masterbation is wrong.

Is there any way you could approach the teacher(s) now and ask your questions? I bet they would love the feedback so that they can cover this sort of topic next time around:thumbsup:**
