Please visit www.creightonmodel.com or www.ccli.org for information. Pick up the book The Art of Natural Family Planning. Read up and study, and you will know the answer to this is “absolutely, yes”.
 
And one important thing to know is if you are ovulating with each and every irregular cycle.

You can figure it out based on temps and mucus changes. It’s hard to p(name removed by moderator)oint the exact day, but you have a really good idea of within a few days. I think the ccli webpage might help you out. 🙂

Women have three basic signs of fertility-- basal body temperature at waking, cervical position, and cervical mucus. Through the month these three elements give a distinct pattern that can be charted. You know when you ovulate based on a shift in your waking temperature and/or a change in your cervical mucus.

The websites I referenced above are a good source. Also, the books The Art of Natural Family Planning and Taking Charge of Your Fertility are very good.

I use the Creighton Model so I only chart mucus.
 
With all these threads shouldn’t schools be teaching the basics on how this stuff works?

To know if you are ovulating, if you have to learn to chart your cycle with the symptoms already mentioned. You actually don’t know that you are ovulating at that moment, but know when you are pontentially fertile, really fertile, and after a count down from the peak cervical mucus day you know you have ovulated. You body could attempt to ovulate on a peak day only not, and retry two days later with another peak day.

Anyways I think it is so important to teach this to young women, many thought all these years cervical mucus came from either vaginal infections or having too many “dirty” thoughts.

NO! Schools have taken over and replaced parents. Parents need to be parents and that is who should teach. Mom’s should present this at the same time they explain menstruation.

Wow, I have a friend who is a certified Billings ovulation method teacher, she goes into Catholic schools all the time to teach about it, because in most young girls’ homes the parent and their pediatricians just tells them it is ok to be on birth control for irregular periods.

Are you kidding me? The biology behind this stuff is fascinating. And what about boys?

But after all the research I have done on the topic, I actually believe it is better for the schools not to teach NFP other than the basic principles in a biology class. It is bad enough having the schools teaching kids to favor promiscuity and contraception let alone poisoning their minds with deceitful facts and figures.

However, I think it is critical to teach this in CCD/ Religious Ed. classes. Oh, the trial of having to explain this to the fiance despite his 8+ years of Catholic grade school!
