This past week I couldn’t attend my usual Parish so I had to attened a different one. An ugly new one built in the 70’s(ya know white washed walls no satuary no kneelers etc.) And during the Mass during the Canon the Priest didn’t elevate the Host he just lifted the pie plate (yes pie plate) that the host was on about an inch above the alter.
Uh, isn’t the Host supposed to be elevated?
I have heard of this done by other Priest too. Whats up? I thought the whole point of not elevating the Host was a heretic Protestant thing brought in in the 16th century to help to deny the real presence. Does anyone know what the GIRM says about this?
