I went to a different Church today for confession and I didn’t see any holy water fonts. I looked and there were none. Is this common?

I don’t think such fonts are mandatory in church buildings, but I can’t say for sure…
The only font at the main doors of my church is the Baptismal font, large enough for alls use upon entry, but somewhat to the side.

where was the baptismal font? the holy water fonts were actually a way to make the baptismal font more accessible to those entering the church, since in larger churches it is not always possible for everyone to use the water from the font, which is what the holy water actually is, and why we use it, as a reminder of our baptism. Most newer churches have a much larger baptismal font at the main entrance, ideally with a pool for immersion baptism. it actually should be the only source, since multiple symbols are discouraged, although smaller holy water fonts may be placed at other frequently used doors.

Our church is like this, with a large baptismal font and immersion pool at the main entrance. We don’t have smaller fonts at the other doors, though. When I was in RCIA someone asked our priest why we didn’t have them and he said it was to encourage people to use the main entrance.
