No Mass for me this week! :(

There are many areas that because of geographical remoteness and the shortage of priests do not make regular Masses (even on Sundays and Solemnities) a possibility…I’m thinking specifically of the remote regions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Baja California where the native people are served by my beloved Franciscan brothers, who “circuit ride” to bring the Gospel and the Liturgy to few people over 100s of 1000s of acres.

Rejoice in what you have. You’ll be fine!

If you cannot move to an area with more regular Masses, then I’d suggest that you
  • watch or listen to a Mass on TV, radio, or the Internet, and make a spiritual communion
  • pray; perhaps something like LOTH would be good because then you would be connected to the official liturgical prayer of the Church even though you’re in an isolated area.
Don’t feel bad, remember that many people throughout history were isolated from priests and Masses due to geography, being a new settlement, or even oppression/ war. In the part of the USA where I am now, there are many Catholic churches, Mass options for every day of the week, and huge parishes at some of those churches…but 200 years ago this was all woods and one priest had to ride around on a horse serving several places. Some places would only see a priest every few weeks or months.
